Considering a transfer

I've never posted on this site before and I don't know how much traffic this forum gets but I had a few questions you guys may be able to answer for me.

I'm a 2nd year at a small private school in CA and recently I've been considering a transfer. I do like this school and I'd be perfectly fine with staying here but sometimes I feel like I would belong better somewhere else. I'm pre-med and have a high GPA and I have professors I know well who could probably write me good letters (small class sizes = good) as well as some other activities and such.

Is a transfer still possible? It looks like most schools (UC's I've looked at, mostly) have already closed apps for Fall 2011. Would that mean I would be transferring for my senior year? I really didn't want to take more than 4 years to graduate since I'm doing very well in finishing my graduation requirements for my school.

I'm also looking at other potential private universities since the enormous populations of the UC schools combined with the budget crap surrounding the system don't make for a very appealing choice. I just have no idea where to start, I always thought I would be someone that stayed at one school for 4 years (or less) and graduated.

Also, what happened to all the winter and spring transfers for CA schools? It seems like all of them only accept transfers for fall quarter.

Why do you want to transfer? Everything seems to be going well for you and it seems like things wouldn’t be going as well if you were to transfer to a UC.

It’s a religiously affiliated university and as such, its pretty conservative. I’m neither religious nor conservative and while I love the school, I keep thinking that I may be happier somewhere else.

Another thing is that I hear med school admissions take undergrad prestige into account when considering applications and I’m afraid coming from a small, relatively unknown school will hurt my application.

Apply and see what happens. Decide from there.

You live only one life. Don’t have any regrets.

Pepperdine?

Anyway, no, most colleges accept transfer applications until about March. The UCs are the exception to the rule.
