Considering Air Force Academy?

Hi I am going to be a high school senior this year, and I am strongly considering the Air Force Academy. Unfortunately I didn’t know about the summer seminar so I missed that opportunity to learn about the academy. I have a few questions that I could not find answers to on the website. I will continue doing my own research, but if anyone can help clarify a few things I would really appreciate it!

 1. How does BCT work? I found a few videos online and it seems that it is mostly physical workouts and teamwork challenges. Any information or tips for BCT would be helpful
 2. If I wanted a science related major (currently considering biology) how would that affect my education and career? Does this choice of major dramatically change the experience I would have compared to someone who pursued aviation or wanted to become an airman?
 3. Are female cadets trained the same as men? (I am not expecting any differences but I thought I would double check)
 4. What track or XC times would be expected to sign with the academy (In the 800,400, or 5k)

Here is basic information about me if that helps with these questions:
Female
GPA- 3.88
ACT- 33
AP- World History (3), Human Geography (4), Psychology (5), Lang (5), Chemistry (3), US History (4)
I am taking Lit, Stat, Biology, Environmental Sciences, Macro, and US gov next year
Varsity track 4 years
Varsity XC 2 years
Leadership: Hospital volunteer
Helped plan community 5k
Coached youth track 2 years

Thank you for the help!

Despite how many cadets think they might want to fly when they first enter USAFA, only about half actually apply for rated positions when they are Firsties (seniors). The vast majority of cadets major in something not directly related to flying. Your undergrad BS does not need to be flight/aeronautical related to earn a pilot slot.

Yes females cadets are trained exactly the same way as the males and go through BCT and the academy side-by-side. There is a slight difference in physical fitness standards to compensate for a females lack of upper body strength/muscle mass.

Good Luck!

Thank you so much for the help!

Does anyone know how much coaches can affect admission?

You have a very strong profile overall. The key to success in BCT is not being a quitter and endurance, both of which you are probably very strong on. Suggest you look at USAFA videos on Flotrack website. They have an exceptionally strong group of distance runners. The academies work with and will develop athletes. If you can run say under 2:20 for 800m you are in the ballpark. At WP many years ago I was good enough for competitive club marathon but never quite good enough for NCAA. Many cadets also compete in Triathlon or other club sports. All the academies have wicked strong triathlon teams

Good assets. Should qualify as long as you passed the eye vision specs (20-20/color blindness).
