Hello again CC. This year(10th) I got a 1430(690R&W, 740M) on my PSAT with almost no prep. I’m actually pretty happy with this score, which has led me to think if it would be the right decision to take the SAT in May or June later in the school year. I’m in Calc BC right now, so I know all of the math needed, and most definitely have the time to prepare for the test. It would also allow me to use it to prepare for the junior year PSAT and national merit qualifications. However, I’m wondering if it might be better for me to just take the Math II SAT, and wait to take the SAT until junior year. What do you guys think?
I was in an almost identical situation as you. The tough thing about taking a test such as the Math 2 test while taking BC (I presume you also took AB last year) is that a lot of material from Algebra 2 and Geometry are useless. I took the Math 2 test and got a 780, but I also didn’t study much because I thought my math level was high enough. The questions I missed were ones such as finding determinants of matrices (forgot how about 3 years ago) and obscure geometry that I haven’t seen or had to use for a few years. I would take the Math 2 test this year, and spend the summer improving the writing section (IMO the most technical and straightforward section) and the reading section (IMO the hardest section to improve) , and then combining them with the skills from Math 2 to get a good score on the SAT and the PSAT Junior year. Hope this helps.
That sounds like a good plan. Thanks for the help!
