Considering transferring... help!

Hi everyone, first time posting but I've been lurking around CC for a while. I'm a freshman this year at Kent State University in NE Ohio. Yeah, I know I'm not like most of the posters on here, transferring from somewhere like MIT to NYU, but us little guys need help too! ha.

I hope I'm not judged on the stereotypes of Kent State, because I actually am in the Honors program here for Exercise Science (physical therapy) and thus far (were on semesters so I haven't had finals yet) my GPA is ~3.4, not great but pretty much average for me.

Next year I'll definitely be looking into transferring to 1) Ohio State or 2) University of Cincinnati. I'm fairly confident I could get into both because I have friends who just transferred into both last year, but getting there isn't really my big problem.

1) I feel like I'm not really being challenged here. I know I should really only be saying that if I have a 4.0, but I have just bombed a few tests. I'm taking 16 credit hours and I rarely ever have homework with the exception with 2 or 3 math and chemistry assignments online a month. I've only written 1 paper and it was only about a page an a half in length. I know I shouldnt complain about not having homework, but I felt like if I had a little more I'd understand the subjects better for the tests, because we all know how hard is it is to constantly sit down and just have to study out of the book and off notes. Next semester I have a tougher 17 credit hours so hopefully things will improve.

2) I enjoy going out to parties, getting together with friends to hang out, going to sports games, but the social life is just dead around here most weekends. Besides the May 4th shootings, KSU might most be known for turning into a Ghosttown on weekends because so many people go home. I dont want to become one of the kids dependent on going home every weekend so I try and stay here and rough it. It can get tough.

3) The weather here is just god-awful. It is cold, rainy, and incredibly windy all the time. It really does become depressing. Not to mention to get anywhere from the dorms you have to walk atleast half a mile.

So this is already a really long post, but I kind of needed to vent anyways. My big problem is that I have tons of friends from home that go to Cincinnati, and really only one that goes to OSU but I have wanted to go there since freshman year of high school and was devastated when I didnt get in when I applied. I'm not the best at getting out and making friends, but have done a good job here and am very comfortable with the campus here at KSU. I'm afraid if I do transfer I'll regret it and have a tough time making friends, although I do feel like I'd be more inclined to join clubs and organizations at new schools.

Once again sorry for such a long post, but if anyone had any advice on transferring or just anything to say about my situation I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

this is definitely the place to vent and stress out so don't worry!

i would say apply to the other colleges and in the mean time think about your future and what college will help you get to where you want to go.

i think if you got into Ohio State or the University of Cincinnati you would regret not going! if you do get in you can join clubs and make a new start at a place you really want to be.
