Consistency in Volunteer Activities?

Hey there, everyone.

So I've recently been trying to get into more volunteering. I'm really lucky in that I live in the suburbs of a big city, and so there are plenty of organizations around me that are doing some really phenomenal things. I LOVE volunteering, and I want to make an impact on people's lives (one reason I'm pursuing medicine and/or political science). However, I'm trying to narrow the organizations I volunteer for down to one or two so I don't overwhelm myself during junior year.

Here's my question: do I have to be consistent in where I volunteer?

There are a lot of different organizations that don't necessarily have to do with the medical field or international affairs, like Girls on the Run, or my local food pantry, that I'm looking to volunteer for. So I'm not sure if I should be looking for stuff that's more consistent or if it's okay to volunteer wherever.

Thoughts?

No, you definitely don’t need to limit yourself to organizations that relate to your intended major.

@halcyonheather: that’s kind of the thing, though. Most of the organizations that I’m looking to volunteer for aren’t really related to my intended major.

Like I said, there’s no reason they should have to.

@halcyonheather: Awesome, thank you.

I’m not a college admissions official, but I would think that anything you do that isn’t for your own selfish gain looks pretty admirable. You sound like you’re going to do great things!

@skyunsea: Aww, thank you so much!!
