Are you able to limit your use? Are you willing to tell your friends, roommate, strangers who wander in that they cannot use it any time they want (just in case you want to study)? Will you be able to replace it should it get broken–and probably broken by someone other than you? If you can answer yes to these questions, you will probably be fine with the game in your room. If not, keep it at home.

My son could not answer yes to the first question, so in two years (and please let him have some self control by then) he will be leaving the game systems at home.

I’m bringing my N64 next year, and thoroughly excited about it. It’ll be nice to have something to play but isn’t exactly on the cutting edge of technology (no COD or Modern Warfare or anything) to where I’d spend endless hours on it. Plus looking for old games I used to play will be a fun adventure.

You should leave your console at home unless you don’t care who uses it and how. Most people wait till they get an apartment with friends because they have thier own rooms

I didn’t bring any last year because I had a roommate who constantly left our door open while she went down the hall, even when asked very nicely and not so nicely to stop. This year I have a single and will bring my wii. I might bring up a ps2 or an n64 at some point, too.

I am a real homebody and don’t really like to go out more than once a week, so I have a lot of time for games. If I were willing to be more sociable I would bet my consoles would go untouched.

I will be leaving both my 360 and my desktop at home. No time for games. I have vacation and summer to play.

I find the Wii probably to most friendly console in a dorm since you have fun interactive games that anyone and everyone can play. If you bring an XBOX 360 or a PS3 you are probably going to get a bunch of RPGs or fighting games - which generally appeal only to guys (apologies I realize there is a small population of girls who play).

With a Wii, you will be able to socialize with everyone around you - which helps during freshman year. Just remember to coordinate with your roommate to find out who is bringing a TV or Wii. I brought a Wii to my dorm, but I had no TV (doh). Ended up loaning it to a friend down the hall and he got plenty of people in there.

i bring my ps2 and my ds and psp. <.< I have my own room so shareing thing isn’t a problem, i know when i can play and when i can’t, ie only when all hw is done.

I don’t suppose those multiplayer wii games are as useful for socializing among girls, are they? XD I am bringing my wii and likely mario kart and mario party to an all girls dorm next year, not sure if I’ll have anyone to play with when my fiances not there.

The last two years I would say a very significant proportion of my friends and people I lived near had game consoles. At my school, at least, they’re very common to find in dorms (everything from N64 and SNES to Wii/XBox360). Obviously only bring it if you have the self control to get your work done and to police other people using it, but if you can manage those than it should be fun and a good way to get to know some of the people (or at least guys) you live with.

My daughter’s suite won an xbox 360 in a Halloween costume contest. The problem is splitting it eight ways at the end of the year.
