Consolidated thread about leaked US News 2006 Rankings

Barrons --

I saw that someone posted the engineering rankings for schools that offer Ph.D's. Do you have the rankings of engi schools that do not offer Ph.D's? Schools like Rose-Hulman, Harvey Mudd, and Cooper Union should populate the list. Thanks!

How about the entire engy schools list with Ph. Ds?

Yeah, selectivity seems to have less and less to do with it. I thought Pomona would rise for sure, but it dropped. And UPenn's above Stanford???

UPenn (again) above Stanford? ***??

:) Yup, I guess it will be HYPPDS from now on. Despite all the whining and complaining by lots of misinformed cc folks, I think P2 (Penn) and D are here to stay. Time to move on and whine about something else. :)

Small eng--Rose, Mudd, Cooper, Poly SLO/academies,Bucknell, Kettering/ Swat.

Duke and Penn better than Stanford and MIT? ******** man, B U L L S H I T

Many thanks to you, sir.

Give some love to Penn

But yeah, I don't understand having Duke ahead of Stanford

It isn't. They are tied. As a Blue Devil....I must say I am content.

How does UPenn get above Stanford again? I know it was the case last year but I didn't look into that carefully. UPenn has lower selectivity and lower reputation. So in what areas does UPenn score better?

why not? US News loves to punish stanford! they're never gonna end it after casper's letter to the editor. no college should dare criticize US News. ;)

Uh, Duke is tied with Stanford, and has been for awhile. Duke is ahead of Stanford alphabetically!! Do you know anything at all about either school or are you jumping on the cc bandwagon?? I have never ever heard anyone give a good reason as to why Penn and Duke should not be "ranked" so high. (Other than the fact that "they must be the schools paying off US News.) Time for everyone to enter this time zone. :)

Rankings are important for people who want to consider graduate studies in Liberal Arts or maybe want to get ito law school or something. Ranking engieering schools doesn't really work in my opinion. I've met dumbasses from private Ivy Leagues who couldn't remember how to solve a problem cause they cheated their way to a degree and i've met smart people from public universities who really know what they're talking about. So you get hired in the company of your dreams. GREAT! "oh you're from Stanford!! how terrific!...so how can you help us solve our problems?" They dont give a **** what school you're from and let me tell you, engineers and techies will know within ONE MONTH how much you know. and if you're from some big name school and can't do jack ****, well you're humiliated and so is your school. so screw your dumbass rankings of engineering schools. I remmeber i met this person who was a janitor and then turned into the best software programmer i've ever seen. no degree. There are so many students who know how to work the system at universities nowadays, that their degrees dont hold that much value. It means nothing in the long run, mayb except for the name of pride of having graduated from a top school.
So to all the engineers out there, dont despair if you're competing with a graduate from a top school. It all depends on how well he or she answers the interview questions!! :)

The editor of the US News education rankings is an alum of U Penn, who artifically boosts their rankings.

Yes ma'am! :)

I didn't know that until I saw someone posting that. Now I totally see how it still gets above Stanford despite obviously lower selectivity and reputation.

Is that true?

..or maybe the person who noted that was misinformed, got rejected from Penn, or attends Stanford.........

also because stanford in the past had openly criticized US News rankings, so my theory is US News is going to punish them forever!!!
