Contacting admissions over the break?

Quick question about what to do between now and Jan 2nd. My daughter applied to 10 addiitonal colleges on
December 23rd. For most of them, she has received login info and can see all of her documents and what has been received. However, for 3 of them either she has not received a login or some documents are missing. And, for University of Chicago, it shows she has applied but there is no list of documents on the screen. How can you rectify these issues with the offices closed over the break? If they are closed unitl Jan 2, will it be too late then if the deadline is
Jan 1??? Is anyone else stressing over this?

I think that colleges will be kind about allowing correction/adjustment of any issues right after the holiday. Particularly for issues that are outside the applicant’s control (such as recommendations). For what you can control - test scores and the like - you should be able to verify from the other side that those were sent, which will be proof that the application was submitted on time.

Great! I hope so…and yes, the documents missing are teacher recs and transcripts, which are out of our control.
Unfortunately, she hasn’t received an email from NYU to give a login for her admissions account…so we have no way of knowing anything about that application!

both my kids submitted the bulk of their applications within hours of the deadline ;). I’m sure they were not alone. So no chance to check on things “before the deadline.” I’m sure things will be ok, and can be fixed if not!

They way to rectify was to send in application earlier. Not to be harsh, but the stress is self-inflicted. When a student chooses to submit 10 applications during winter break and 2 days before Christmas (which many do of course), they have to deal with no feedback over that winter break. It has been that way since kindergarten, school administration is not available during that time. On the lighter side, it will all clear up after the holiday when you can check.

If they appear to have submitted okay from her side, you are likely fine. The schools have to take steps on their side to download the app and send the portal info. Give them a break – they want a holiday, too. If you don’t see something by around Jan 3 for something submitted before Xmas, she can call them.

@blueskies2day, Dec 23 is plenty early enough for a Jan 1 deadline.

@intparent I totally agree that December 23 is soon enough to submit applications for a Jan 1deadline. BUT I’m going to qualify that by saying…many admissions offices are CLOSED between Christmas and New Years. So really…the smart thing to do is NOT submit in that time frame…just in case you have an issue. And as can be evidenced by many posts this week…there are students with issues…and no way to get their questions answered before January 2.

Plan ahead.

Agree, the idea of an application is that all the pieces are in place. If so, December 23 is just fine to push send, sounds like the OP got everything submitted to a long list. I’m sure in early January the D will be able to see if all the pieces have come together. Plus the “issue” may be a non-issue, it just might be that the office shut down on the 23rd for the holiday break until after New Year’s. Even electronic submission pieces and parts might go through a CRM and need an actual person to release data from the CRM to other people and databases, just like many industries have an in-take system in place.

Seriously???

December 23 was Saturday, a non-work day at most schools. December 24/25 were Sunday and a non-work day. Today is the 26th, it has literally been hours. Many schools are operating with a skeleton staff this week so don’t count on much being done. Step away from your keyboard. You are really going to feel some type of way when no one is logging into the common app this week from your high school to click the boxes.

As long as your D got her part in on time (which she did), you have nothing to worry about. Remember that saying about a lack of planning on your part…

Just make sure that you do all of the other parts to support these 10 applications, log on to college board to send scores, update/make corrections to FAFSA to add these schools, add schools to and pay the extra expense of the CSS profile (unless you are full pay then the profile and FAFSA does not matter).

I am sure by now, most schools are not manually downloading documents and they are automating creating accounts and sending out SN and PW. As long as you submit the application on time, the supporting documents can be submitted later.

I wouldn’t worry about it until January 2nd or 3rd. My office has been open except for Christmas Day, and while at least one person from every division is expected to be in every day, it is still difficult to get anything done even with a light workload because the one person you need to meet with isn’t there when you need them (and, yes, sometimes that missing person is me). Wouldn’t most colleges be on break this time of year?
