Hey, so I was just wondering what colleges would be interested hearing about after I submit my application/supplement/payment. I have heard from a few schools that they like to hear from you (ie Georgetown), but I'm not quite sure what in particular they'd consider worth my contacting them. Here are a few examples:

1) I was made an officer (secretary) of my school's ski club

2) I recently finished two pieces of artwork I'm really proud of that aren't in my portfolio I sent them

3) I may become captain of my school's tennis team, but that won't happen (if it even does happen) until march

So I was just wondering whether I should communicate with them about these things; and if so, whether to do it by email or regular mail.

Thanks!

I would say probably not…I think thate they want you to contact them if like you’ve won some national award (in art, for example) or if your grades improved drastically this past semester or if you were appointed to National DECA officer or something like that. I think the question you should ask is: Will this be the difference between me getting in and not? And you can’t assume you’ll become the captain. I am the only senior on my school’s swim team, but the coach is a jerk and chose a junior who is currently failing multiple classes…but that’s a different story lol

Yeah, I know I can’t assume that kind of thing, I’m just wondering whether I should tell colleges if the situation does come up…that does stink, I think the same thing might happen to me too, except the junior is probably passing his classes, but he’s exceedingly irksome.

…Idk, the guy from Georgetown said that they just like to get to know you, but it almost seems like contacting them would just be obnoxious =/ But then if they do want me to keep in touch, I feel like I’m missing out by not…hmm

I would just send a new activities profile and ask them to update your file, you can note the “new” things in your letter that you send with the new profile.
