do any of u wear hard contacts?
b/c my eye doctor recommended hard contacts because supposedly it'll help contain my number cuz mines VERY high ..yeah pretty bad...
but i've heard they hurt a lot...
soo idk if softs better or hard actually help with the number stabilizing thing..??

Lol, mine’s pretty high too, but I need to wear soft cause I’ve got astigmatism.

I’ve heard generally bad things about hard contacts, but I can’t say personally…

Yes hard contacts are supposed to be better with the number things and all. But if you lose a contact, well, there goes your contacts.

I have soft contacts, and I change them every 2 weeks which I think is more sanitary. Plus if you lose one, you always have another pair to wear.

^ also, you can wear the same contacts for months and just put in new ones when they start degrading. Save a ton of money, and not go to the ophthalmologist as often.

^ I use Accuve Oasis w/ Hydraclear…supposedly their “top-of-the-line” version. Directions say wear one pair for 2 weeks, but I usually wear my pair until they start to crack/break…which can be 1-2 months. Saves money :)

i used to have the hard RGP contacts but i got annoyed with them because i always felt them in my eye
switched to soft contacts

I’ve been wearing hard contacts at night for 6 years. Yes, they control/stabilize your vision better. However, I wore hard contacts during the day for about a month, and it was sooo uncomfortable. So bottom line, if it’s daytime hard contacts, I wouldn’t recommend it. You can’t even feel soft contacts.

I wear soft contacts. They go in fine and correct my -9.50 vision.

lol this is so confusing…

You are possibly the only person I’ve ever encountered in my entire life who has worse vision than me. Congratulations?!

I wear soft contacts because I have astigmatism too … I tried hard contacts once and they felt TERRIBLE, but I’m sure after awhile they feel normal. Putting in soft contacts for the first time was pretty startling as well~

I’ve been wearing hard contacts for about six years and I really love them :]
My number is high too, but I can go a day or two without using them and still maintain my vision around 25 or 30 (20 being perfect). But when I wear them everyday, I have perfect vision during the day. Hard contacts are great for sports, because you can go the whole day without having contacts/glasses on.

I have trouble with the discomfort occasionally (mostly when I get new ones), but I tell my doctor and they recustomize it. Make sure you get a good optometrist. I switched twice until I found an optometrist that ordered contacts from a company that would recustomize your contacts.

I had a long talk with my optometrist the other day because she was surprised at how well nighttime contacts were working for me. Apparently, I’m one of her top 3 cases so far. She said that everything really depends on your degree, your cooperation, when you get it, and your “genetics”/eyeball shape.

I would recommend trying hard contacts because there is a possibility that it will “correct” your vision. It pushes back your eye when you sleep so you have better vision in the morning (haha. This is the simplified version of it. I don’t want to go all scientific on you )
When you are young, your degrees grows rapidly because your eyeball isn’t “set in stone” and fluctuates. However, as you get older, the theory is that your eye will become more resistance to change; and therefore, you are gradually able to wear your contacts less and less until you “correct” your vision. You still have to wear them, but depending on your circumstances, you can wear them once/twice/thrice a week, or even once every two weeks (…I don’t quite believe this one though…).

I have a lot more to say but I don’t want to scare you away So if you’d like to know the name of my contact lenses company or listen to me rant on and on, just PM me :]
I have hard contacts and my mom has soft ones so I think I can put up a decent and an only slightly biased argument ;)

Yeah the nighttime hard contacts can actually correct patients’ visions who start out young and don’t have that high of a degree. I had idk what it is on the 20/20 scale, but the doctor always says 600 degrees on each eye + 200 degrees astigmatism. This was at like 8 years old going up 200 degrees every year. Paragon CRT, my contacts, worked wonders and stabilized my vision. I have close to perfect vision during checkups now that my contacts perfectly fit my eyeball. And not wearing anything during the day is a great perk :D

^^really? wow hmmm interesting

Using hard contacts has a name, orthokeratology. I’ve been using them for a couple years. Handy when you want perfect vision the next day, but putting them on and washing them, etc is boring.

Orthokeratology is only for the night hard contacts though… I think the OP was asking about the daytime ones.

I’ve had hard contacts for more than 6 years (?) and they’ve been fine for me. I lose one like once a year which is really annoying because they’re super expensive but I guess if I had to buy new soft ones all the time then it would be about the same.
Edit: Oh, I have night hard contacts. I would not recommend them in the day- they’re fine when I’m sleeping but the feeling, constantly blinking, random stuff in your eye against contact, etc., gets really annoying.

My vision, said my optometrist is near blind :)

yeah im talking about daytime…but i didnt know about nightime hard contacts…

I wear daytime soft contacts, and they’re much more convenient than glasses. You can wear sunglasses and do physical activity. I don’t find it annoying at all to put them in and take them out. I’ve been wearing them for three years and have only had a contact fall out of my eye once (I put it in poorly, too).

^^haha. I was talking about nighttime, I didn’t know there were daytime hard contacts :]
