I find the information provided on these websites contradictory and I would be glad if you could help me understand, whether international applicants are eligible for scholarships.

The Berkeley site claims no:

"Financial Aid and Scholarships

Unfortunately, there is no financial aid or direct scholarships available for international students studying at UC. We encourage all students to explore scholarship opportunities from private sources in their home countries."

However, at the same time, the UC site shows that international students applying to Berkeley (not the other campuses) can receive the "Regents and Chancellor's Scholarships" as well as Alumni scholarships. (Note that being a U.S. citizen is not a requirement for these two scholarships while it is at the other UC universities)

in regards to the second version (that there is in fact aid) also see this:

"Financial assistance and additional fees

Most international students find it difficult to obtain financial assistance in the United States, particularly if no aid has been offered by an academic department or scholarship organization before arrival in the United States.

Also, it’s important to note that UC awards a very limited number of grants, loans and scholarships to international undergraduates. At some campuses, no assistance is available to international undergraduates."

Hi,
I contacted the Berkeley fin aid office and got the following reply:

The UC Berkeley Financial Aid Office indeed does not provide financial aid
because international students are not eligible to apply for a FAFSA. The
International Office, however, does provide assistance through different
resources. The Regents’ and Chancellors’ Scholarships are not entirely
need-based aid from the federal government so international students do
have a chance at being selected for the $2,500 that they do provide for
those without proven financial need. The Alumni Scholarship is directly
through your own application to the Alumni Association and is not directly
associated with our office.

So I guess the maximum amount an international can get from Berkeley is 2500 (please correct me if I somehow misunderstood this).

So, here it is then. The remaining 48500 are for you then.
