Converted Triple in Alumni Court South

Well, the bars around Fordham are lax on checking ID’s and so forth. I know lots of kids do this. Agree not everyone gets drunk or in trouble. I understand. Just saying advise him to be careful and its better to avoid those people entirely. Being social is fine…its normal. Just saying upperclassmen like to hook freshmen into the bar scene and form a drinking buddy scenario. Be careful. Also the security guards at Fordham and RA’s look for cases like this and can cite them if they look inebriated.

Again, it happens at every college.

Just because they were drinking does not mean that they were getting drunk. In fact, just because they were in a bar, does not mean they were drinking. Lots of bars have great food too, and fun games.

College is more fun without drinking. It is a rare college where it can be totally avoided, but also rare that it is necessary.

I agree, ROTC students are not “cream of the crop.” Actually, they are pretty much like other students.

It’s college, students drink. That’s pretty much how it works nowadays. Unfortunate, yes. Typical? Also yes. The best thing to do is not cringe or freak out every time your kid goes to a bar or hangs out with drinkers/smokers. (Mom finally stopped doing that with my brother because all of his friends drink and smoke and he’s okay with it, so she lets it slide and finally stopped lecturing them). It’s college life and there are those who use these tactics to break away from the mold of their parents. Not that i actually approve of it, but it happens.

Also, I apologize if I’m coming as insensitive, but realistic this is what happens. And also, the students themselves don’t really make a big deal out of it either and no one’s pressured to drink or smoke or any of that, at least at LC. So, I really don’t think you have anything to worry about.
