Just found out I’ll be spending freshman year in Loschert hall but in a converted triple. Any advice/insight on how this works out (in terms of dorm space/whether it’s worth requesting to be changed back to double when and if possible) would be appreciated? Thanks
One good thing about Loschert/Alumni South is that the rooms are big and can easily accommodate a third person. After you move in you can eventually ask for a double when one becomes available, which would mean moving again sometime during the year. You will need to share closet/drawer space. This is another huge freshman class and I’m willing to guess just about everyone will be in converted triples (like last year).
Speaking about what is referred to as a “forced triple” at another college: just try as best you can to limit “extras.” It really helps with the closet and drawer space. A close friend survived a forced/converted triple with 2 bureaus and 1 closet (!) shared between 3 girls. The vertical hanging things (you can hang 4 shirts vertically on one long white plastic hook that goes over the rod and underbid storage (if you have it) are key. It’s a bit of a pain, but she brought only summer/fall clothing choices for drop off. Had her mom send her winter coat, boots and hat at a later time. No extra linens, no yearbooks etc… I know that sounds like a giant bummer but apparently it really helped to feel like her things were under control. It can be done! And I think it means a reduction in cost. My assumption at Fordham is that there will be 2 bureaus and two closets to be divided among 3 girls.
There is a reduction in cost and there are two bureaus and two closets to be split amongst three girls. Also, in Loschert there is NO AC in the dorm rooms. The rooms are large, but that is the downside, no AC. Arrange who is bringing a fan. Also as stated above, rotate out the clothes. When you go home for Thanksgiving break, bring home as much summer wear and bring back to school the winter stuff. When the semester is over, bring home stuff you don’t think you will wear for a while. In March, start swapping out again when you go home for Spring break. It can be done.
