Hi,
I am a 2 time convicted felon. Aggravated Battery for spitting on someone while intoxicated, and a criminal damage to property felony that was reduced from a burglary charge. I broke into someone’s car while blacked out. I never stole anything. I also have two Dui’s and a disorderly conduct misdemeanor charge. I am a University of Illinois student currently pursuing my bachelors/masters in accounting. I graduated from a junior college with a 3.8 gpa. My grades are excellent. I enjoy studying accounting and could not see myself doing anything else .I have been sober for 2 years. I never went to prison just probation and none of my charges are financially related (fraud embezzlement etc), I also never hurt anyone. I have turned around my life. Should I continue pursuing an accounting degree or will it be impossible for me to obtain employment? I know I will face many obstacles especially trying to get my CPA license. I know healthcare and teaching is out of the question because of the violent felony. I understand accounting is a sensitive area since you are working with finances. Is there anything else that I should study that is more felony friendly or should I stick with accounting>? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You might find it helpful to talk to career services on your college campus.
Those are all post-juvenile, but pre-sobriety convictions? I think it will be important for you, when you get to the point in recruiting when your background check comes up, to discuss your commitment to sobriety. Two years is a great demonstration of that effort.

Different states have different laws and rules for those convicted for felonies getting various professional licenses. Some states are more lenient, other states are tough on felons forever. Check what the rules are in you own state first as far as getting clemency or civil rights restored and also being able to get any professional licenses.
