How far is it from NYC? $25 and about an hour train ride away

What are all the people like? It's impossible to define all of them, everyone is unique in their own way. Hipsters do roam Vassar though, if you want to place a stereotype on it (a stereotype that, quite frankly, doesn't do any justice to the school.)

What is a typical weekend like? Idk, I'm not a student. I'm answering based on my several visit experiences and research I've done.

Hookup or relationships? Again, no clue

Dorm life? idk, but from what I've seen, dorms are BEAUTIFUL

How much studying per day? Vassar is a top 10 LAC with renowned academics. What do you think?

Study abroad? I think it was something like 40% of students study abroad their junior year.

Job recruitment? No idea

Grad placement? Many of Vassar's graduates go on to top graduate schools (i.e. Harvard, Yale, MIT, Chicago, etc.)

Are there activities to do other than drinking? I'm not sure. I actually want to know the answer to this too. I don't want to go to a school where drinking/partying make up the social scene and the fun available. I would imagine, however, that Vassar has a balance.

If it helps any, I'm applying EDII :)

Just so you know, I'm a current freshman...

How far is it from NYC? An hour and a bit and $25 or so dollars via train.

What are all the people like? Amazingly friendly. I'm serious... I don't think I've ever met as nice, accepting, and warm a bunch as most of the people who go to Vassar. As for stylewise... there's scene, yes. But there's also just about every other type of look that you could think of. It sounds cliche, but there isn't one dominant "style."

What is a typical weekend like? Depends on who you are. For me it's shopping with friends, work, a movie or game night, a dance party in one of the dorms, attending a concert, and so on. For others, it's drinking, hardcore partying at the THs/TAs, and smoking. And for others its going to protests, attending club meetings, doing community service, going on excursions with the Outdoors Club, and going to sports events. You can find pretty much whatever scene you want.

Hookup or relationships? Both are possible. Once again, you can find what you want. And, frankly, the 60:40 split isn't as awful as one would think at first... it's noticiable if you go to womens' studies meetings, of course, but not so much everywhere else.

Dorm life? Pretty fantastic. The rooms are almost uniformly spacious and life really centers around the individual houses with dorm-sponsered events, dorm weekend activities, and so on and so forth. As for the co-ed bathrooms... they're fine and absolutely nothing to worry about.

How much studying per day? I'm into my classes so I'd say at least four hours a day. I know people, however, who end up doing no more than an hour or two of work for their classes a day. It's pretty manageable.

Study abroad? Definitely an option... I'm not planning on doing it so don't have much of a grasp on what's out there. Any thoughts, other current Vassar students/alumni?

Job recruitment? I'm go awhile to go, so don't know about that offhand either. I can tell you, however, that the Office of Career Development is highly visible on campus and sends weekly emails about opportunities. This would be another question that someone who's further along in the Vassar educational process would be able to answer better.

Grad Placement? Vassar's pretty well-known in the world of academia, so it's pretty fantastic from that standpoint. As a freshman I (once again) don't know the specifics.

Is there activities to do other than drinking? YES! I don't drink at all and haven't run out of activities to do on campus yet. As I said earlier there's concerts, movies, school-sponsered parties where alcohol isn't served, a mall (with a shuttle), sports, outdoor activities, clubs, and a good amount of people who don't drink or who drink rarely. Really, you won't run out of things to do if you're not into the drinking scene.

How far is it from NYC? I'm going for the first time next weekend. ee!
What are all the people like? Awesome. I'm pretty sure you get into Vassar based on how much of a "character" you are. Seriously, people are just... interesting. Everyone's got something to offer.
What is a typical weekend like? For me... drink, impromptu dance party, eat, more impromptu dance party, drink more, don't get enough sleep, go to dance rehearsal for 4.5 hours on Sunday with a massive hangover.
Hookup or relationships? Both.
Dorm life? Love it. ResLife is pretty good at pairing roommates... my roommate and I are probably the best-matched pair in the universe, but everyone else seems to get along fairly well.
How much studying per day? Study? What? In all honesty, I have a pretty light workload this semester. I probably spend an average of a couple hours a day studying, but I only have three academics (my fourth class is dance). It'll be harder next semester when I have my writing seminar.
Study abroad? JYA (Junior Year/Semester Abroad) is an option, but I think I'll do a summer program. LOTS of opportunities. I'm planning on going to Italy; possibly France...
Job recruitment? Don't know. I delete the emails from the Office of Career Development...
Grad Placement? Ask me in few years.
Is there activities to do other than drinking? Drinking makes everything more fun... but sure. I spend a lot of time just sitting with people and TALKING because everyone here has something to talk about...
