Cooking for One? I need some quick, easy, cheap recepies.

Hey I'm a senior in college and I live off campus, and I'm TIRED of eating fast food, noodles, and eating out. Frankly, eating out is getting expensive!!

I don't really know how to cook much so if anyone has any of their recepies they'd like to share,id appreciate that.

Some easy, quick and cheap food to make

The easiest thing to do is google “cooking for one recipes” and I am sure you will come up with a lot of good ideas. Throw in the word “inexpensive” and you will find even more! Easier than sharing recipes on here without knowing your likes, dislikes, etc. Cooking can be fun, too, so invite friends in to cook dinner, rather than going out - you’ll save a lot, and maybe learn new recipes from each other in the process!

My healthy, quick, cheap meal:

Get a box of Uncle Ben’s Rice, I like the Chicken & Herb flavor. Make the box (takes about 10 minutes), cut it into 3 or 4 portions.

Get some Boneless/Skinless Chicken Breasts, Thin Cut.

Prep 2 pieces of Chicken Breast with Sea Salt, Fresh Ground Pepper, and Seasoned Salt (Lawry’s or McCormicks). You don’t have to go crazy, just a nice sprinkling of salt and pepper flavor.

Heat a saute pan over medium-high heat. Heat some Olive Oil in the bottom of the pan. Add some crush/chopped or sliced Garlic to the Olive Oil. You may also add some onion or shallots at this time if you wish.

Once the garlic softens, add the chicken breasts and saute until cooked (usually a nice golden color on each side of the breast).

Serve over the portion of rice. Looks, smells and tastes wonderful. I think it costs only about $2 to $3 to make.

Good luck & good eating!

Tip for beginners: keep it simple.

Get some veggies, rice, and meat in which cooking just involves apply the right form of heat in the right manner for the right time. If you get quality ingredients, the food will, at the very least, taste OK.

Once you perfect the art of those “simple” foods, then you can move on to combining stuff.

I use a variation of that same recipe by adding the chicken to cream of mushroom soup before pouring it over the rice. Its a little more ghetto then cooking mushrooms in white wine, but damn its good.

There are a few books designed exactly for this purpose.
