really simple recipe suggestions

Hi everyone...I'm living in an apartment-style dorm that doesn't have a dining hall and is pretty far from all of the college dining halls. I only know a handful of basic recipes and am getting bored of them pretty quick...please share any simple recipes that don't require too many ingredients and can be made in an hour or less.

Dessert wise:
-Oreo Pie Crust
-Bananas
-Instant Vanilla/Chocolate Pudding (your choice or you can do both)

Make the pudding. Slice the bananas and place them on the pie crust. Pour the pudding over. Theres a dessert. I made this with a plastic cup, plastic spoon, and plastic knife. It is the easiest thing to make.

Snack:
Pizza Bagel.

-Bagels
-Tomato Sauce
-Cheese

Cut the bagel in half. Spread tomato sauce over it. Put cheese on top. Microwave for 3 minutes or however you like your food.

Real Entree:
Skinless Chicken Breast
Bacon slices
Shredded American or Cheddar cheese

Season the chicken breast with salt and pepper. Cook it in a regular pan with some olive oil. Cook the bacon in another pan or the same pan afterwards. Put the bacon above the chicken and then pour some cheese over both of them. Bake it for 5-10 minutes or however you like your food at 375 degrees. You can also make it into a sandwich if you want. If you don’t feel lazy, I would recommend mashed potatoes with this.

Chicken Sandwich
-Skinless Chicken Breasts
-Roasted Red Pepper
-Your favorite cheese
-Pesto
-Mayo
-Ciabatta Bread

Season then bake the chicken breast then slice it afterwards into thin slices. In a bowl mix some mayo and pesto until it has the same consistency. Cut the ciabatta bread in half. Spread some pesto mayo on one side of the bread. Put some chicken slices on the other side. Slice some of the roasted red pepper then put on top of the chicken. Spread some cheese above the peppers and chicken. Then put it in the oven and put the broiler on and leave it inside for 3-5 minutes so the cheese is melted and the sandwich has some crunch.

Hamburger
-Regular Sandwich Bread, doesnt matter if its white, wheat, etc.
-Ground beef
-Bacon
-Onions

Season the beef and make it into a burger then put it in a frying pan. I wouldn’t recommend any oil or butter unless you want to put some in. Since the beef has fat in it it will make it’s own fat to cook in. In another pan cook the bacon or have it done before the burger. Then in either pan cook slices of onions till it’s very soft and translucent. Toast the bread. Put the burger, bacon, and onions on the bread then bon appetit.

Not sure how many ingredients is not many, but these are really easy recipes my boyfriend and I like to make from time to time.

This is my favorite food:

Yield: Makes 8 to 10 servings
Ingredients

* 1 pound dried small elbow macaroni

 • About 1/3 cup (1/6 lb.) butter or margarine

 • 2 cups (1/2 lb.) shredded sharp or medium cheddar cheese (I use mild)

 • 1/2 cup fine dried bread crumbs

 • 3 large eggs

 • 2 cups milk

 • 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce

 • About 1/2 teaspoon salt

 • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

 • 1/4 teaspoon paprika

Preparation

In a 5- to 6-quart pan over high heat, cook macaroni in about 2 quarts boiling water just until tender to bite, 4 to 6 minutes. Drain. Return macaroni to pan, off the heat, and add 1/3 cup butter; stir to melt.

Lightly butter a shallow 2 1/2- to 3-quart casserole. Sprinkle 1/2 cup cheese and 1/4 cup bread crumbs over casserole bottom.

Beat eggs, milk, hot sauce, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and pepper to blend. Add to macaroni, along with 3/4 cup cheese, and mix well. Pour mixture into casserole. Sprinkle remaining cheese and bread crumbs evenly over top. Dust with paprika.

Bake in a 400° oven until top feels slightly crusty when touched, about 20 minutes (about 15 minutes in a convection oven). Add salt to taste.

Obviously not super healthy, but it’s good comfort food once in a while. XD We probably put in twice as much cheese as we’re supposed to. Boyfriend was lactose intolerant before he met me, but thankfully I’ve cured him. hehe

This one is good too…

What You Need!
1 lb. boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 Tbsp. oil
3 cups chopped mixed fresh vegetables (red and green bell peppers, baby carrots, mushrooms and snow peas)
1 clove garlic, minced
1/4 cup KRAFT CATALINA Dressing
2 Tbsp. hoisin sauce
1/4 tsp. crushed red pepper
Make It!

COOK and stir chicken in hot oil in large skillet on high heat 3 min.

ADD vegetables and garlic; cook and stir 5 to 6 min. or until chicken is lightly browned.

STIR in remaining ingredients; cook an additional 2 min. or until chicken is cooked through and vegetables are crisp-tender, stirring occasionally

<a href=“Delicious New Recipes Every Day | Kraft Heinz”>Delicious New Recipes Every Day | Kraft Heinz;

Only we use peanut sauce instead of hoisin because we couldn’t find the hoisin the first time we made it and now I refuse to let him change the recipe. We serve it over rice, and we use snow peas, baby carrots, and red and green pepper.

At the moment I am perfecting a beef and vegetable soup recipe as well as a pot pie.

And this is where my expertise comes in: (I don’t have the patience/skill to cook anything extravagant)

30 - 45min:

 • Chicken Wings
 • Sliced onion
 • seasonings to taste (I prefer to stick with the basics: salt, pepper, garlic, italian seasoning)
 • Can of condensed mushroom soup

Season chicken, spray oven-safe pan with cooking spray, slice onions and dump onions and chicken in said pan.
Depending on your taste, either mix the condensed soup with water or milk (water = less calories, obviously. Milk = richer taste. Your pick) according to soup instructions.

Pour unheated soup on top of chicken, cook for 30-45 minutes on 350.

Serve w/ rice

BBQ chicken wings 30-45min
same as above, minus the soup and onions. Put the seasoned chicken in the oven for same amount of time as above. 10 minutes before the time is up, baste with BBQ sauce.

Salmon and mushrooms - 30 min

Get a steak of salmon; season with salt, pepper, garlic, Italian Seasoning.
Cut up mushrooms, onion, and crack a garlic clove - cook on the stove with Olive Oil (do not allow the garlic clove to burn or it will taste disgusting. If in doubt, leave the clove out

French Toast - fattening version, but extremely delicious - 20 min
I think my mom stole this from that country woman on Food Network, Paula somebody. And I redid for the “I can’t cook” college student - AKA me.

Slice of bread, preferred type is potato or french toast bread. I haven’t tried it with wheat or white, so use at your own risk.

Vanilla extract

Ground cinnamon

1/4 cup of sugar

2-3 eggs

1/3 cup of whipping cream

Whisk the above together, dip bread and let it really soak. I leave it in there longer than most people, like 3-5 minutes. IMO, it tastes better that way.

Cook on a non-stick pan, and flip when it begins to stiffen.

Homemade potstickers (If you’re feeling brave. It’s about an 1 1/2 hours to do

dough recipe

 • 3 cups of flour
 • hot water (must be hot. I can’t remember the exact amount to use, eyeball it. When the dough is mixed, it should look like the consistency of playdoh. Keep adding flour or water until it does.)
 • 1 tsp of salt

Let the dough rest for 20 minutes while you prepare meat filling.

1-2lbs of ground pork

chopped scallions

1/2 tbspn sesame oil (optional)

1 tbspn of minced bamboo shoots (optional)

1/2 tablespoon of soy sauce

1 tsp of salt (maybe more or less depending on how salty the soy sauce is, i.e. if you use light soy sauce instead of regular)

1 tsp of sugar

Mix the above in a bowl.
Roll out the dough (using flour so it doesn’t stick), as thin as you can. (If you’re feeling lazy, you can buy Pillsbury crescent rolls instead. Just pinch the seams together to form a rectangle, or use large wonton wrappers)

Use a cup or something to cut the dough into circles. Place about 1-2 tbspn of filling in the center, wrap dough around it and pinch to close.

Fry the bottom of it in a pan using vegetable oil. Once the bottom is cooked, add 2-3 cups of water, and cover the pan. Set heat to low-medium and cook for another 10 minutes.

*I meant or Texas bread for the French toast recipe. Not “French toast bread”

(I just took kind of a large dosage of Vicodin for a killer headache so I’m a little out Of it. Excuse any further stupid mistakes  )

What is a potsticker?

We just had french toast “with a hint of orange” served in my cafeteria and I am dying to know how they made it. I HATE citrus flavors but it was a very subtle orangey flavor, and it was SO GOOD.

I’ll try to post a picture.
Hold on

ETA: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pkcawvwzuMQ/R8LWB26b63I/AAAAAAAAACU/qDVRiG0mey4/s320/potsticker.jpg</a>
And a site with really good recipes for Chinese food
http://steamykitchen.com/recipes</a></p>

I made these for my friends last weekend:
http://steamykitchen.com/88-xiao-long-bao-shanghai-steamed-soup-dumplings.html</a>
But they take like two days to make. There’s a lot of prep

Maybe they put orange zest in the french toast?

One of the best recipes my mom’s taught me is this really simple one.

Thin pork chops (maybe a pound or so)
Can of tomato soup
1 green bell pepper
1 onion
Flour
Salt, pepper, and garlic.

1) Make a flour/salt/pepper/garlic mixture and dredge the pork chops in it. Tap off any extra flour and let the chops sit for ~10 minutes.
2) Chop up veggies into long strips
3) Saute pork chops in a little bit of oil on medium/medium-high heat so the outside gets browned.
4) Take out porkchops and cook veggies until they’re slightly softened.
5) Pour in can of soup and refill can with water, pour into pan.
6) Put pork chops back into pan, make sure they’re fully covered by liquid.
7) Put a lid on it and simmer for about an hour.

Serve mixture over mashed potatoes or rice.

If you like it a little spicy, add in a poblano, jalapeno, or serrano pepper.

It’s even better the second day.

The french toast with a hint of orange like PlattsburghLoser said probably has orange zest or orange liqueur.

You’re in school! Dont cook-- microwaves are great- wish they were more widespread when I was in school. Trader Joes has great single or double serve microwave meals. I also think the pre-cooked chickens from the markets are pretty good.

Because those meals are awful for you?

I know, I live off them. XD

Bread, Peanut Butter, Jelly.

Put the Peanut Butter and Jelly on the bread. Stuff tastes good.

Nigella Lawson - breakfast smoothie

Ingredients

* 1 peeled banana, cut into 4, from the freezer (FROZEN, so you dont have to use ice)

 • 2/3 cup milk
 • 1 tablespoon honey
 • 4 teaspoons malted chocolate drink powder (recommended: Ovaltine)
 • 1 teaspoon strong coffee or 1/2 teaspoon instant espresso powder

Directions

Put all ingredients into a blender and whiz to mix.

Iz awesome.

Baked potatoes can make a simple, tasty meal. Just put it in the microwave, take it out, cut it up, and put whatever you want on it. Bacon bits, sour cream, butter, cheese, broccoli…pretty much anything.

thanks guys! I guess I’ll go shopping tomorrow and pick up some stuff like veggies and chicken cutlets (i have nothing but cereal, canned soup, and nachos right now lol). also don’t have a blender or toaster but most of these recipes look doable.

@Wilners: i’m guessing you’re a mom; how would you feel if little Betsy and Junior came home shaped like barrels? i’ve been eating a lot of defrosted meals lately, but I need to learn how to cook and might as well start now.

You don’t need a toaster to make toast  You can just put it on your frying pan on mid-low heat then flip it over when one side is done.

Baked salmon/tilapia/fish of your choice: season filet with olive oil, salt + pepper, some basil, a squeeze of lemon (adjust spices to your liking) and bake it in microwave oven for 15 minutes on 350. Alternatively, rub miso and mirin on the fish for a Japanese style dish.

Orzo salad: cook orzo pasta, combine with raw onion, peppers, tomatoes, olives, basil, olive oil, and red wine vinaigrette.

Greek: Make a Greek salad (lettuce, tomatoes, olives, feta, and vinaigrette). Add lemon-sage rubbed grilled chicken/fish if you like. Get store-bought pita, dab some olive oil and rub some fresh garlic on it (or some minced garlic) and bake it till warm. Get some store-bought hummus to dip it in.

Good snack: grilled PB&J sandwich.
It’s delicious.
Make a normal PB&J, then butter the outside and cook on the stove as you would a grilled cheese.

get some onion powder, italian herb season, ground peppers and salt, and season some chicken thighs and breasts and put it in the oven on 350 for about half an hour. then drizzle honey on top of it and put in for another 15 minutes on 450.

oh and some veggies!

get a pot of boiling water. dump in some fresh leafy greens, like… spinach! and take it out in about half a minute.

mashed potatoes: use a peeler, or a knife, and peel some yukon potatoes. boil them a pot till they’re pretty squishy. drain water out. mash potatoes with a masher, or a fork, with some milk (maybe a couple tablespoons) and about a teaspoon of salt, a tablespoon of butter and some pepper and cajun pepper too if you’d like.

actually i think you’re supposed to use whole cream, but whenever i make it on the whim, i’ve never had whole cream with me and it still worked out.
