does major-related course selection matter when transferring? or should i just take CORE classes only?

i want to major in international relations but it isn't offered at my school so instead i'm majoring in economics since its the closest thing to it.

so should i take courses related to international relations or just core classes that will transfer?

Are you so limited that you can only take core classes?

I’m a math major and even though I’m taking many advanced math courses (major-related) I will have finished all my pre-requisites by the end of spring.

IMO, major-related courses are an advantage since it shows that you’ve already started a tangible path towards your degree.

my school does not allow taking econ classes until second sem, which i am definitely taking advantage of.
i’m also not taking any politics courses until after i complete the history course, which is a two semester course. so i’d really start taking political courses sophomore year.
