Cornell 5 year MBA+Engineering program

Hi everyone!
I'm new to this forum and just have a question on the 5 year MBA program Cornell engineering offers with Johnson school of management.

I'm planning on studying Industrial Engineering and Operation Research from CoE and hopefully a MBA later on.

I've read the website's description but they're not clear at all.
All i know is that i'll need to finish my bachelor requirements by junior year and the rest of the 2 years will be devoted to finishing business courses, and that i'll need to take the GMAT and score something around 700+.

However, i have no idea what my credentials will have to be a strong candidate for that program.

Does anyone know what requirements are for this program? How many students do they take each year and just how competitive is it? Do they expect students to have work experience when applying in junior year?

I'm a high school senior applying next year and would appreciate it if anyone can answer my question as it may influence my decision to go to Cornell or not.

bump… bump bump

I know of a friend who completed this program in a slightly different setting (5 year BS/MBA at Cornell via the ILR School).

Basically you’re going to apply to the MBA program at the end of your junior year, by which you should have completed almost all of your undergraduate coursework. In essence you’re finishing your bachelor’s degree in 3 years and applying straight to business school. You then finish the MBA like normal in two years.

This program is not for those who spent all their time studying to get a 4.0. My friend had worked every summer b/w the end of high school and the beginning of senior year in college, was able to finish requirements early by filling electives with an abundance of AP credit, and was very involved on campus.

As someone who knows Cornell Engineering grads, finishing a CoE degree in 3 years will be hell upon all hell. I know it’s appealing to you to finish all your schooling in one shot, but honestly it would be far more benneficial to graduate on time, work for at least two years, and apply in the standard form.

What is far more common however is students doing a 4 year BS/MS program in ORIE. Because the MS requirements slightly overlap with the BS requirements, this allows students to not have to pack so much of their schedule together and still allows them to get an upgraded degree in 4 years which is very useful for getting jobs.

Thanks for the reply,
i thought the thread was dead after a week :).

The MBA program is a big factor in my decision for university, and i have been wondering if i should stay in Canada and go to University of Toronto (where they have a similar program as the 5 year MBA but instead allows 6.5 years for completion –> i suppose they understand the difficulty of finishing an engineering degree in 3 years).

I’m still wondering what the requirements of Cornell’s mba program are? (i’m guessing that finishing undergrad in 3 years isn’t the only requirement).

For instance, i’ve heard that when applying, they’re comparing students to others that have already had work experience. Do they require students applying for this program to have work experience? or do they only look for a high gpa?

Bump!
