Cornell AEM ED... Brutally Honest

I know these threads come through all the time, but here I go anyways..

I am now a high school senior and my dream school would be the Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management at Cornell University. I plan on applying ED.

btw other schools I'm applying to are UVA, UNC Chapel Hill, College of William and Mary, Indiana University (safety, but still great B school)

I know it's absolutely a long shot, but if you don't at least try for what you truly want, you will never get it.

So... here it goes
White Male from Florida
SAT: 2100 - 690M 720CR 690W
GPA: UW: 4.0 W: 4.9
Class Rank: probably top 5-10% at a small competitive school
Senior course load: Dual Enrollment Economics, dual enrollment Calculus I, dual enrollment statistics, dual enrollment philosophy, AP US Gov, AP Lit, AP Chem, honors concert band, honors jazz band.

Kind of your typical extracurrics: NHS, chess club, leadership in church organization, drummer in church band, school pep band, surfing instructor, good bit of community service, two self fundraised service trips to Haiti, etc.

I can probably get some great recommendations from teachers and a mentor... but I don't think that will matter that much

I can certainly write well and can write about my interests in business, but don't really have any good activities to back it up.

What do you think my honest chances would be?
BE BRUTALLY HONEST.

To be brutally honest: I need more info…what are your AP scores and your SAT 2 scores? Your senior course load is rigorous and SAT score is okay. Your extracurricular are fine. Is there any hook?

On the other hand, you do seem to have solid stats. You have a chance, but it depends on how your other scores lean. Best of luck!!!

SAT math too low for an econ major. Also SAT writing needs to be over 700. Class rank looks good, ECs are pretty decent.

Did you work at all during high school? If so mention this. Can you highlight your experience as a surfer? Anyway to tie this into your interest in economics?

The AEM overall admit rate was 8% a year ago (this year’s sophomores). The program is small with 95 or so freshmen. I do not have any insights as to the #s they look for, but I do think you would need a good story for the AEM essay and higher scores could only help.

While Cornell says they do not look at the Writing score, they do post it on the applicant portal, but they only report CR & M scores, so am not sure what to make of that.
