FastNeutrino, you don’t have anything to worry about. Cornell doesn’t do likely letters for most groups of people; the people who received likely letters were females who applied to the college of engineering or underrepresented minorities (I don’t know about athletes, maybe them too). The point of this is that Cornell holds special programs (like the Women in Engineering Program) in April and they wanted to give people advanced notice so they could make arrangement to get to Cornell. If you’re a white male, there’s no way you could get a likely letter. You’re good.

I probably won’t be getting in, despite 2330 (780M 750CR) SAT I and the 5 AP classes I’m taking right now. Oh well, time to go hang out with my girlfriend and play tennis and guitar.

@michellel: That’s kind of what I figured. My black friend got a likely letter, and we have pretty similar stats (he has better GPA, I have better SAT… that sort of thing). So if anything, I’m taking that as a good sign.

@coltranefan: First of all, you still have a good shot. Two, you like John Coltrane, therefore you are cool in my eyes, if that’s any consolation. =P

does anyone know how we view our decisions. are they sent through email or de we have to log in to a site with an applicant id because i never got an application ID…is that just me??

@littlemelon I don’t know if CALS is even sending out likelies to female engineers…
But still: Just because you didn’t get a likely letter DOES NOT mean you didn’t get in! They aren’t even done with decisions yet, and most people never get one! You could still get in! I’ve looked around the other boards and haven’t seen one person from CALS for engineering that got a likely yet.

no, cornell is definitely sending likelies to female engineers. Someone I know got a likely letter because of that

@corrinder94 it goes like this. This is what I got from the ED round in an email. They send you everything.

Hope this helps.

@awkwardpenguin13: Was your female friend a bioengineering major at CALS? Because I believe that the point that the others were making were that no one at CALS got a likely letter despite their ‘engineering’ based major (Which still confuses me, btw. Whats the point of having bioengineering in both schools? Is one easier to get into?)

This is what it says on the application status page:

Regular decision applicants will be able to view their admission decisions online on Thursday, March 28, beginning at 5:00 p.m. (Eastern Daylight Time). A few days prior to the decision release date, we will contact regular decision applicants by email with instructions for viewing their decisions online. Please note that your decision will not be posted on your Cornell online application status account, so please follow the instructions that will be outlined in our email to you.

You do not need to do anything further at this time. We will post a new message on our website once we have sent the email instructions for viewing your decision online.

Is it earlier than it was last year? I was looking through the time stamps on last years threads and it seemed like they released at 6pm?

oh wait isnt it released on the 21st then? since thats 3rd thursday

^soz my bad i meant that for another forum

all of these talk about likelies is making me more nervous: im starting to feel like I did not get in. I cannot wait to March 28th and whatever happens… life goes on. Did anyone receive any likelies from Bio and soc. from cals???

@thechor thank u! That was what i was trying to say. Although some cals students have been notified early, I haven’t seen any notified from CALS just for being an engineer.

@eberej i received a likely as a bio and soc major at cals but just because you didn’t does NOT MEAN YOU WON’T GET IN have faith and believe in all the hard work you’ve put in for 4 years

I applied to CHE for Design & Environmental Analysis (I think that is what they call it)
ACT 28
I went last summer to Cornell’s Summer College 3 wk course at CHE
Great teacher recom from Cornel prof, HS Engineering & Physics teacher
Great ECs, part time job, strong varsity and club soccer athlete for 4+ yrs, Captain of team
HS engineering focus
Considered “all around well balanced” application
Have legacy

I’m hopeful, and it is my 1st choice but getting more and more doubtful given the strong competition.

Did anyone apply for cals atmospheric sciences? Is it considered easier to get into due to a major that very few people apply into?

S applied to CALS bio and soc, no likely. March 28th can’t come fast enough…

Just got mail from Cornell. A likely letter in writing, and information that I’ve been named a Tanner Scholar that they picked 40 A&S kids for. Cool stuff. Hope it’s a good sign.

I applied Cals for environment and society major. I got a notification, don’t know about engineering
