Is anybody knowledgeable about financial aid and transfer students?
@redbluegreen19 the financial aid calculator they have on their site is pretty accurate. I actually ended up getting more than I thought tbh. it’s need based so they don’t give more to freshman or stuff like that
Does anyone know how GT decisions are received? do they just come out on the portal on ivy day or is it a different process?
Does anyone know how we’re supposed to submit supporting documents? I can’t find a way to upload my high school/college transcript, the midterm report, or the college report to the application portal. Do they have to mailed?
hey i did the transfer option and ended up attending cornell, if you guys have questions about the admissions process or campus life let me know.
don’t worry too much about the classes, i know for certain majors they expect you to take an absolutely ridiculous courseload and get good grades to boot. admissions will take most english classes and on the off chance they don’t you can take a FWS your first semester to cover it.
i think the best advice i can give you all right now is to make the most of your freshman year because you’ll only get to experience it once, and to buckle up because the transition is not always easy.
@steelwoolsheep hey 3 questions!
-
how do you receive your GT acceptance? do you log onto the portal on ivy day? does it look like a standard acceptance letter that gets mailed home?
-
not sure if you are a guy or a girl, but does being a sophomore transfer put you at a disadvantage for trying to rush a top tier fraternity? it says online that this fall they did Fall recruitment where students that aren’t first years can rush and all the chapters participated, so is that a good time for transfers to rush? do you know if top houses take transfers during this?
-
what are the living situation options? what are your options for picking a single or picking a roommate? and where do transfers typically live?
thanks!
I got a C- in calculus my first semester however all other grades are very good, and my spring semester grades are on track to all As… how will this effect my admissions decision? Do you think they will just make me retake the course in the summer? very very nervous…
I think you might need to talk with your ILR contact. From an earlier post: My son had a guaranteed transfer to ILR a few years ago, and got below the required grade point average his first year, and still got in. They did say his transfer was no longer guaranteed, and that they’d re-evaluate his application. I think it helped that he emailed/phoned his contact at Cornell to discuss his case. He had actually emailed before he got the bad grade to ask if it would be better to drop the class (which would show as a drop) or complete it, risking a bad grade. They advised keeping the class. He did try hard to not get the bad grade, but he did (I think it was a C? in calculus).
Ok I have been in contact with ILR throughout the course so it seems like a similar situation
Has anyone heard anything about if we can hear before ivy day? Didn’t know of GT’s received likely letters or things of that nature or if we hear after the RD are made.
@litlhoward2468 @redbluegreen19 the way it worked for me was when I logged onto the portal on ivy day, I saw a standard rejection, nothing else. I only got an email the next saying I had been given the transfer offer, so as far as I know, there’s no indication leading up to ivy day on whether or not you’ve been given the offer.
I had no idea this was even a thing until I got that email, so I had actually deleted it without reading it because I was pissed they were still emailing me. Thank god I forwarded it to my dad to point out how awkward I thought it was, because he actually read the email.
@esterling I received the Transfer Option last year, I am currently a freshman at college looking to transfer, I was wondering when I will hear this time around
@redbluegreen19 oh my bad, sorry about that! Yeah I’m wondering the same thing…apparently it’s rolling between April and May
april and may… thats a lot more waiting!
The letter said that decisions are typically released in April. if you meet the TO requirements, your admissions decision will be confirmed on a rolling basis. if you do not fulfill all of the TO requirements, your admissions decision will likely take longer, as the ILR admissions committee will need to review your applications along with the regular transfer applicant pool. In this case, you might not hear until the end of April.
when is everyone submitting the midterm grades?
@ccollege2020 i mailed mine yesterday
I submitted my mid-term report via e-mail. And finished my CSS Profile and FAFSA this week. I’m super nervous but thankful that I’ve fully completed the application, just have to wait to hear back at this point!
jacbellini Did you send it to the email that was on the sheet? Because that’s what I did and I’m worried I was just supposed to fax it or put it up on the supplemental website.
