@CCSenioritis Thank you!
I’m questioning why I applied to Cornell RD. I mean, I got rejected from Northwestern ED, and although I got into Michigan, idk. I just don’t want a rejection spree since I applied to 4 ivies.
Well, you applied, so you have a better chance than if you hadn’t applied because of fear of rejection.
When S started this process I went to a short presentation at a college fair on applying for elite schools. The presenter stressed that if you wanted to apply to the elite schools, you had to be comfortable with waiting and with rejection. It’s not personal, it’s just part of the process since their admit rates are so low. Hang in there. I’m sure you will have a great college experience wherever you end up.
Does Cornell send likely letters? If so, when?
I think in past years they may have sent some in mid-March.
does Cornell do interviews?
yes
How important are the CAAAN “interview”
From what I know, don’t believe interviews hold the key for admission to Cornell.
@shivaya yea I know they won’t make or break an application but after being deferred I met with someone for an hour and it really went well she wrote so much advocating how cornell would benefit from me. Could that help at all??
I have had this experience and the outcome was otherwise. I hope it works for you but I would not bet on what they say. I have only heard from a couple of schools (one being Harvard and Columbia) that the interview can definitely help.
Most others don’t carry any weight. I have been told consistently that if you got one, its great but if you didn’t get one, then don’t despair:-)
I heard Cornell barely interviews, absolutely no one from my school got one and a lot applied
My daughter got an email out if the blue 2 weeks ago from a Cornell alumnus. He asked to set up an interview time with her. I honestly don’t know if this is a good sign or if it matters at all, but it was nice that they are at least considering her. She said the guy was “cool” and that they talked about the lab research she is doing at UNC, so I guess it went well??
From an SHA standpoint, which is the school I applied to, I spoke to a friend who graduated this year from SHA at Cornell and said the interviews are added to your applicant profile and “definitely has some sway.” Hopefully that helps give some insight
I think it has some sway because they do have to write a small report on the person and send it so it can be added to their application and generally it is meant to help, not hurt the applicant.
my sister attends Cornell and she got in without getting asked to interview and also had friends who got in with an interview. I think it’s random
I am international and last week I had a “meeting” for 20’ with an alumni and so did some applicants from my school.
He said is not an interview but also said that he will have to write a report. Also said is mostly to answer our concerns for academics and student life
Anyone else applying to CALS get an interview?
