Cornell Class of 2020 Regular Decision Discussion Thread

Hi guys, lurker here. Congrats to everyone who got a LL! Did any of you also get one from Columbia? I think they’re known for giving out a lot of LLs.

@thetsaria Somebody from my country received one.

Why is evverybody talking about diversity email/invitation here?

@dianaDM people just got them today

Can somebody post the diversity email here?

@Iyannastark

Hey guys! CAS applicant here. Do you know how many admitted students get these diversity/LL’s? I’m a female in engineering and a URM so I feel a bit discouraged about not getting one. Congrats to you all who did !!!

In my email they called it Cornell Days

Is it bad if I’m African American but did not receive this email?

On the Diversity Hosting registration page I saw
“Please keep in mind that we are trying to offer this opportunity to over 400 students”

So i haven’t heard from Cornell since i applied. No emails, nothing. (I’m not an URM) just wondering if others have had any type of communication with the school. I applied to CALS

Is that a bad sign?

Okay, so, there’s around ~600 spots left for the 31st. AwESOME.

@senioritis07 There are URMs and there are also underrepresented groups. Usually underrepresented groups are defined by each campus and could include very low income status, or females in nontraditionally female majors.

@thetsaria - Columbia LL & Cornell e-mail here. Saw it on my way to check my MIT decision. Overall, it’s been a good day.

Don’t worry at all if you are not URM or female in engineering and have had no contact with the school. That’s 100% normal.

If you are and didn’t get it, there is definitely still lots of hope.

@Leicisbest Son applied to CALS. Haven’t heard a word.

@Leicisbest @CAMidwestMom I applied to CALS as well and didn’t heard anything, except when I emailed them to double check my SAT scores because they weren’t processing them. Got a really friendly response back about that, but nothing about admission.

@ThatGirlCoder I’m also a female hoping to major in CS and international (Eastern Europe) and got really surprised when I opened the mail. I think that the number of LL is small so there is still hope

Does the likely letter for women in engineering mean 99% guaranteed admission? Or is it more of a wailist thing? I’m new to all this LL stuff, can someone please explain? Thanks!

Correction, daughter got into CAS not CALS. From California.
