Cornell Class of 2020 Regular Decision Discussion Thread

@davidwaloo there is a class of 2020 facebook group lol

If I received a likely letter do I need to respond to it?

@davidwaloo theres a google doc for roommates for accepted kids already. if you want the list pm me!

The class of 2020 page isnt official though. I had a Cornell rep tell me that the official fb page goes up when RD decisions are out. And yeah, the google docs things is kinda weird. I’m sure most people would rather do it the more traditional way (fb page). @CCSenioritis @lolog123 @16elir

Hey guys…just a general question… will Cornell compare my application with others who have applied from the same high school…like I know that a couple people got rejected in ED from my school…will they compare my app to theirs or will our apps be judged separately

I’m pretty sure that they compare people who are from the same high school.

It’s just another criteria in their holistic process.

No one from my high school has applied in the last 5 years, so I don’t think there’s anything to compare me to.

Do sibling legacies play a significant role in admissions (if they graduated with latin honors)?

If I am an international applicant, who is currently studying in an high school in the us as an exchange student… Will I be compared among some people from my us school? Or since I am international im like a special case (and so reviewed independently)?

@feeb97 Sibling legacies play a role, but not significant. When S3 was accepted we were speaking to adcom and they were discussing his admission and mentioned S1. I think it was a piece of the application, but not significant as we did not donate to any buildings or fields.

@rik123 Each school at Cornell has its own ADCOM. Only the school you apply to will read your application.

Your application will stand on its own. Good luck

thanks

Do you think a 680 M 680 CR and 640 W, but with a strong essay, strong grades, strong ECs, and a strong music supplement (white) is enough for CAS?

@hlsidle you will find out tomorrow. Stay strong!

If you don’t end up going to a school, do you have to email them that you plan on attending another school?

@cuhopeful16 I think that you should email the undergraduate admissions if accepted, which i hope you are, about what to do if you change your mind. If not i believe that when you actually go on campus there are counselors who specialize in helping you decide what majors, classes, etc to take, so you can ask them about switching, BUT as of now who cares what school you get into, we just wanna get into the university for now!

@Princetonian9 I mean like with other schools

@cuhopeful16 If you are accepted but decide to enroll elsewhere, it is customary to email ADCOM and withdraw you acceptance. It helps them know where the yield will be and go the WL if necessary without having to wait till May 1 to see if deposits are received.

@cuhopeful16 Oh… no I don’t believe so, you just register and accept the acceptance for the school you pick. If you don’t accept the acceptance for other schools that’s indicative enough.

Some schools have a portal where you can reject admission
