Cornell Dorms

I am looking at dorm rooms at Cornell, and I was interested in Court Kay Bauer Community. I read that it had suites, and each suite has 2 double rooms and a single room. Does any have any more information on this dorm? or if this is accurate? If anyone has ever lived there and knows it well, that would be awesome.

I don’t live there, but I spend a lot of time in Bauer working on homework with friends who do. You’re sort of right about the suites, although every suite is in the same hallway (instead of sectioned off, like you might imagine). It’s kind of hard to explain.

The dorm has air conditioning, which is nice for much the month of September, but then it cools down and you don’t really need it anyway (I’ve done just fine in my air-conditionless Jameson). The rooms are ridiculously cramped from what I’ve been in, although the bathrooms are pretty nice (the toilet is in its own room, rather than the stall I’m accustomed to and there’s an actual shower door instead of a flimsy curtain). I do love the lounges. They have white-boards and some have TVs. Also, in Bauer, there are a pool table and ping pong table on the ground floor and Court (Ah, it might be Kay) has the “Red Room,” which is just another really nice lounge. The faculty in residence (FIRs) are super nice and I ALWAYS see them around campus (literally, they are EVERYWHERE!). They’re such an adorable old couple and are very friendly and really love to chat. Imani (sp?), the RHD never even smiles, though.

However, just to remind you, you won’t be choosing where you live as a freshman (unless you want to live in a program house or are a girl and want to live in Balch, the women-only dorm).

Just putting this out there…
I think he was half joking and it sounded really shady but,
our tour guide on the “Freshman Experience Tour” said that if you put down that you have a “dust allergy” on the housing app, you’ll be placed in one of the new dorms (CKB, Mews).

^ Actually, I’d believe that, lol. I’ve heard of students faking allergies/asthma to get into the newer dorms on West Campus, so it wouldn’t surprise me if you can manipulate the freshman housing application in the same way.

^ it worked for me when i attended UVA. Some of the dorms had AC, others didnt, and VA is pretty hot. I have legit allergies and put it on my app and behold, landed a single with AC :)

Yeah, it’s a pretty dirty thing to do, but I’m pretty sure it’d work.
