Cornell ED Class of 2021 Discussion Thread

@RUHTRA999 I applied ED to cornell, and if I don’t get in I’m hitting submit to UVA, Johns Hopkins, William and Mary, and Colorado State

@NotIvyYet My sister goes there, and I fell in love with it when I first visited with her. The great academics (although INSANELY tough), the awesome opportunities, and great recruiting, all led me to apply ED to this school. I absolutely would love to go there and it is my top choice by miles and miles! I also don’t mind the cold (I live in a relatively colder place already :P) and I think the environment is so pretty.

When I get rejected or deferred I’m going to be pretty upset but I hope I can get over it soon enough.

:frowning:

How prone is Cornell to deferring applicants? I heard they do not defer often so will I only get accepted or rejected to CAS come Dec. 8?

@triceratops1 for the class of 2020, 27% were admitted and 24% were deferred:

Whoops! Guess I was misinformed thanks.

@NotIvyYet – My D applied ED to Cornell’s College of Engineering after visiting campus. We did an engineering info session and quad tour. She loved the campus, the Engineering program/ facilities, and the fact the Cornell was the only program where the male/female ratio was nearly 50-50. Also, they have competition teams–something she is very interested in joining.

Why not Princeton? Well, knowing that very, very few people, though qualified, are admitted was a deterrent. Every year a few people from D’s HS go to Cornell, Other Ivies, not so much. And from some of my research, Cornell, is considered to have the best engineering program in the Ivy League. D is considering other institute schools including RPI and WPI, as well as universities like Northeastern, Lehigh, and Villanova.

Guys! Relax! Those of you worried about not getting in, don’t stress so much, you never know! Ivy League admissions are always up in the air, don’t give up your hopes just because you may not have high enough grades or standardized test scores. Like mentioned many times, Cornell always looks at fit for a particular college and major so as long as you applied to the major you truly want to study and demonstrated that interest through your supplements and ECs, you’ll be fine :). If you don’t get in, Cornell will lose one hardworking, talented, and driven student that will soon make a change in the world. Good luck to all!

Heyo I also applied to Architecture ED (AAP)

How many people do you think they will accept ED to the B.Arch program? (and how many of them should be international students?) I’m so nervous because idk what part of my application will be the one factor that makes them accept or deny me AHH

good luck to everyone!!!

@jionrubia Idt there’s any real way to tell how many they’ll accept to that school in specific; I think I tried looking for those statistics but I couldn’t find them. Could somebody correct me if I’m wrong?

And same here!!! I’m honestly not sure what they’re thinking when they’re looking at my app. I hope they’re willing to forgive some not-so-good grades freshman year for other parts of my app (decent (or at least I think they’re decent) EC’s and essays).

But we’re going to be fine in the end - don’t worry! I have come to realize that everything happens for a reason. If we get in, or don’t get in, we’ll end up someplace that’s right for us.

Also, I’ve got a question: how can we get this post pinned to the front page? Does an admin have to do it?

@skieurope Do you think you can help me out with this? Thanks so much.

@roboticsnerd33 totally agree with you on the right place for us bit at the end of your post, I’m just having a hard time distinguishing what is right for me and what it is that I want (if that makes sense)

and literally same!!! freshmen year was terrible (although mental illness was a big factor in my academic performance) but I really stepped up my game the rest of high school. I just wonder how much changes if I’m international

btw do you guys ever wonder when exactly it is that they review your application? like I always think how I could be in class and they could be reading my essays and that makes me freak out lol

I’ve pinned it.

How many of you guys have received a phone call from your local alumni? I got one yesterday and my mom seems to think it makes me special, but I think every prospective student gets one.

@jea293 what was the phone call about?

@sharkface555 She asked me if there was anything I wanted to say to her that couldn’t have been included in my application, she asked me questions like why I wanted to go there, she talked to me about her experiences at Cornell and told me I could ask anything about the college and she would answer it. She said the point of it was to have her do a write up about me and put it on my application. She said it can’t hurt me, and would only increase my chances. So I don’t really know if it was good or bad, but I do know my friend who applied 2 years ago received a similar call.

@jea293 Oh okay, you received an alumni interview. I got a similar one, but I did it in person at a local Starbucks.

I think everyone gets one right? @sharkface555

@jea923 everyone that has an available local alumni

@skieurope Thanks!

I read that CALS, like other public universities, are required to have over 70% of their students in-state. Would this make CALS harder to get into than Arts and Science if I’m applying out of state?
