Cornell ED Class of 2021 Discussion Thread

@AspiringScho1ar there is no way that the statistic you cited is correct. 70% is way too high.

@jionrubia Hey where are you from? I am international as well.
I think if I got in, that would be because of my interview. You have also received an interview right? I think it is mandatory for AAP applicants (or you do the interview essays). Interviews for AAP applicants are different from other alumni interviews because they play a bigger factor in the admission process (according to their website), so if you have a great portfolio and a great interview, then I think the fact that you are international wouldn’t be as important (it might even help you if you are not from Aisa, LOL)
If I got denied, that would be because of my portfolio. I really had a weak portfolio.

@IBsleeping 70% is the average required acceptance for all public national universities. I’m assuming CALS is within that range.

@Euler21 @roboticsnerd33 @OCNYmom Thank you all for the perspectives! Best of luck to you all! OCNYmom, very cool that your daughter plans to pursue Engineering- I do as well! I think Cornell certainly stands out among the Ivies for Engineering, I only wish they offered a non-binding Early Action.

@jionrubia @RUHTRA999 hey I’m also international, but I’ve been here since middle school. Where do you guys go to school?

@RUHTRA999 How long was your interview? I really don’t feel too good about my interview, because mine only lasted about 45 minutes. I heard a lot people have 90 minute interviews. The interviewer I had was very professional like…didn’t really talk much about personal stuff and didn’t let out any personal feelings. Btw, do you remember who you had your interview with? If you had one on campus.

@RUHTRA999 @jionrubia did your portfolio have any layouts to it? or did you just upload pictures of the pieces alone? How many images did you upload?

I was told by their admission people I could upload a PDF with my layout, but it wouldn’t let me submit with just the PDF file that day, so I had to split up my PDF into 20 spreads. I had more than one image per piece for a lot of my works.

ahhh im high key going insane about this. honestly not expecting an acceptance at all :frowning:

I’m so nervous for the 8th!

I just had my interview, and it went great. I think all ED kids get interviews.

Don’t think that’s true…I live in Shanghai and only 2/6 people from my school got selected for interviews. I’m doubtful that everyone gets one (even in the US)

@jea923 I got a call on Friday and have an interview after school at Starbucks today, I think at least the majority of US applicants get interviews.

Very late to this thread, but hi guys!

I applied ED to CAS, definitely did not realize admission decisions are only about a week away, and just had a panic attack in Spanish class s.o.s.

Along with Cornell ED, S is planning RD at RPI, Northeastern, Lehigh, and Case Western. If Cornell doesn’t work out and he gets accepted to all the rest, which of these do you suppose would be the better ECE curriculum regardless of all other factors like campus comfort/food quality/rural-urban/large-small/expensive-inexpensive ?

@RUHTRA999 @raraora

I’m Peruvian and study in an international school here! I designed a very simple PDF using Adobe InDesign and uploaded that, I only had one piece (3D) that had more than one “slide” or “screen”.

My interview was very relaxed, although I tried to sound professional. It was around 100 mins (give or take 15 mins) and we talked about everything, from Cornell, to my city’s architecture and even about social media. Mine wasn’t on campus clearly, so it was with an alumni.

@reformedman does your S want to study computer or ee? Does he have a career in mind?

@reformedman I’d probably guess RPI as the best of those schools, but he should check out Georgia Tech-- it’s highly ranked for it.

Hi, I’m an international student here, targetting AAP. I’ve also applied for financial aid. However, on the self-service portal, my financial to-do-list is still empty! Does that mean I’m probably rejected and they’re not wasting their time on me? :frowning:

@sargamprakash we had a similar experience, but its showing up now; we had called the aid office and apparently their IDOC system was overloaded and financial aid requests were processing slow, which is why the extended the aid deadline. Also, it takes 3-5 days for all of your documents to show up as processed! Hope this gives you some peace of mind.

@prayersupteamah Maybe just a little peace of mind. Sorry I’m just way too paranoid right now

@raraora
I go to school in Georgia. I had an off-campus interview with an Architecture alumni, who has been in the industry for decades. It lasted more than three hours.
No my portfolio didn’t have any layouts. I uploaded pictures alone. Now please excuse me if I am mistaken, but I thought the purpose of slide room is to get rid of the layouts so they focus on the works themselves.
Most of my works contain only one image and two of them I think contained more than one images…
Where do you go to school?
