I AMFREAKING OUT FOR DEC 8!!!
@cotopaxi I don’t think you’re statement is correct: “The ACT you only have to send in your best single sitting or they also super score, so at Cornell at least, the ACT is actually the better test because you can choose just one”
from https://admissions.cornell.edu/standardized-testing-requirements
“Cornell University requires freshman applicants to submit either all SAT or all ACT scores.”
“Your ACT composite will not be superscored.”
wow, lots of people talking here
@cotopaxi thanks!
@cotopaxi lol be thankful you cracked 2000, i got 190 something on psat sophomore and decided to take a crack but it was during my exam week and i had two hours of sleep and was sick and it was the one they messed up… i missed over 2x as many (with half the questions .-,) as i did when i came back October of junior year, without studying. Needless to say, I did bad-- I got a 1780 LEL, but got a 2220 without studying at all between tests (Gg) so hopefully they’ll look past that …
God, it is so tempting to join the discussion here. Idk how it seems like everybody here gets strong grades (probably people who care about college and grades are gathering here and stress out :D). I am sort of depressed when my counselor tried to contact Cornell, and they didn’t reply, given I wasn’t assigned with an interview. In the past one months, I was literarily disconnected from the my dream school. Hope that 8th is the Day! Waiting is so stressful.
@quietdesperation I stand corrected. I couldn’t remember the exact language. Doesn’t matter now though. LOL.
@Existentialslump The interviews are just based on availability, it means nothing towards your chances.
Thank you for your reassurance. There was one thing for my application though. I heard people saying on this thread that Cornell puts lots of emphasis on “fitness”. I applied for COE, and I have science related activities and essays and tests on record. But I am also very humanity-oriented. I like psychology and social science, which I showed lots of enthusiasms in my essay (combined with some engineering aspiration). Can anyone tell me is this a “fit” or “misfit”?
Hey Pals ! This is my first post in this thread. I have also applied ED to Cornell University. Recently, I realized that my financial aid to-do list is empty. Is it okay or does it indicate a negative admission verdict ??
so at what time should we expect emails rolling in tomorrow (or tuesday)?
@0000yo0000 You’re fine. Don’t read into it. Maybe it just means you did everything right.
I wonder if someone actually knows the answer to this question
lol just chill and check your email regularly
Is everyone very anxious ?
Yeah man of course.
I heard acceptances may be coming out tomorrow. Is this true?
I really think people here who get admitted should somehow be connected, and have coffee in Ithaca in orientation next year. Haha
@hoghedge really? I need the godly power to end this torture ASAP.
@Existentialslump Without seeing your whole application package, who knows? I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it. How many teenagers can show real practical experience in their preferred major? Some, but not all. All of us inflate our profiles to some degree anyway. There are some serious geniuses out there who will win a Nobel Prize some day, but most Cornell freshman are like us - passionate, smart people with a lot of potential.
Out of state yearly cost is $68k, in state is $51k. 30% of the student body is in state and average financial aid is $32k. 8050 of 14300 students receive this aid. So 14300(($68k)(0.7)+($51k)(0.3)) - (8050)($32k) = $900 million net annually from undergrads. Compare this to (.07)($6 billion)= $420 million annually from endowment returns.
@ExistentialSlump I was somewhat in the same boat as you. Was planning to apply to COE but realized I would be a better fit for CAS. Fortunately my intended major, CS, is offered in both, so I ended up applying to CAS instead. I wouldn’t worry too much now. If you talked about engineering of any sort in your essays (even if it’s related to humanities) you should be good. My problem is that I had nothing at all related to engineering, and in fact I realized I’m really not interested in engineering, I’m more interested in the science/math behind it.
