Cornell Fall 2017 Transfer

@Mastodon97 Wanting to internally transfer immediately after (or even before, in your case) admission to Cornell seems very sneaky. As a freshman, I pondered applying to nursing schools (there aren’t many male nurses) just so I could secure a position in prestigious university like Penn, and then switch to A&S as Pre-Med; however, I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. My conscience told me that it was wrong. I know some people who have taken advantage of admissions committee and ,while it may have worked out for them, I still don’t condone it.

I see that you’ve clearly stated in your previous comment that you are not using ILR as a “gateway.” I hope that what you say is true, and I wish you the best of luck with Cornell.

On Cornells internal transfer requirements page (can’t post the link but you can easily google it):

“Students who transferred to Cornell from another institution face certain restrictions. Generally speaking, students who transferred to Cornell after sophomore year are no longer eligible to apply for internal transfer.”

All in all, I’d say be careful. Good luck!!!

@115transfer I see where you are coming from, but I care 0% about prestige. I’m definitely going to ILR and am definitely staying there if I’m fortunate enough to be admitted (it never even came in my mind to transfer internally until a few hours ago, Idk how it even got this escalated lol). I’m not going to Cornell for prestige or anything, I want to go there because I want to broaden my opportunities for my career (and because I hate my current school for too many reasons to mention). I’ve never understood this mindset where the student feels like they owe the college something. They are taking $$$ from you every year, but yet you should feel bad about wanting to make sure you are taking the best possible pathway for your own career? For the student, its gonna be their entire lifetime that they are affected by the school/major they participate in. And on feeling bad for the admissions committee, they spend maybe…what…10-15 mins on an app? and then they move on. I hardly think they would care if the student feels as though they have a new interest that pertains to them. (Sorry if I got rambly, but I see this mindset way too often on CC).

Which one is harder to get into, Vandy or ILR?

@Mastodon97 I want to do finance as well (Sales & trading) and I can say that based on my research, AEM does have a slight edge in recruitment for NY IB positions, but its really far from impossible to land an internship at a BB from ILR. Cornell has a heavy presence in most banks and I don’t think recruiting or networking events are limited to business school students like at NYU does for Stern students. Just network, build a resume that you can twist into experiences geared toward finance and you’ll be fine.

Is it easier to get into IB from ILR than Stern?

@ILR2020 I definitely wouldn’t say so, Stern is probably better for IB for a multiple of reasons.
@johnpfc3 That sounds like what I thought the process was like

@ILR2020 No I would say it’s harder. Stern is king when it comes to Wall St IB recruiting because of the proximity to Wall St. and its emphasis on finance. I would argue only Harvard and Wharton beat Stern when it comes to recruitment. That said, Cornell (including ILR) is most definitely a target and if you are willing to work for it Cornell has all the tools and reputation you need to get into a BB for IB.

@Mastodon97 thanks, I just want to know. no interest in IB anyway: I am interested in public policy. However, I will probably receive my rejection letter on Tuesday. Lol

@Mastodon97 maybe lol we are same person… and no I did not for econ, there was a specific program I liked PAM in Human Ec. it combines a lot of politics, policy, and economics… it interested me a lot more than a typical econ. major.

bro I know but Vandyyyy @Mastodon97 idk why I have this obsession with vandy lolol I just really liked how organized and nice their application and notification process is

Guys… honestly cornell is cornell…it is an ivy leauge I Banks will take you from whatever school or major if you have good grades and want to do IB idk why ya’ll are arguing about this… yeah it may be easier if your like an AEM major but its not hard if you are not

hey guys… it seems sort of weird last year a lot of people knew by now about acceptances…does anyone have any idea when they are coming out?

@financeguyjames LOL Vandy definitely has a nice application system, definitely better than Cornell’s. It just seems more slick in some way. And next wave is probably gonna be Tuesday.

So this is a stupid question, but do you think a small typo error in my supplement essay will harm my chances? I made some last minute changes before I submitted, and I meant to write “face a glass ceiling,” but it ended up as “face a face ceiling.”

@Dontskipthemoose Nope, mistakes happen and colleges know that we’re just humans behind the essays.

@Dontskipthemoose As long as that’s your only error, I’m sure it won’t affect their decision. They’ll definitely notice that though, and they may find it a bit annoying that you didn’t catch it. It might give off the impression that you procrastinated. However, if everything else is fine and you have the stats, I’m sure it won’t matter. Everyone occasionally messes up! I did that on my UMich app (didn’t decide to apply until a week before apps were due), and I was still a part of one of the first groups of applicants to get in. (I said executive “roll” instead of “role.” I giggled about it for weeks after realizing it — I kept thinking of myself as an executive bread roll. Lolll)

There will possibly be an update to our pins at midnight (AST), right?

@BondTaurus did you send in your ACT score to Cornell?

@lexluther96 Unfortunately mine was not updated, anybody else able to get a PIN after midnight?

They update every Tuesday.

Mine was updated on Tuesday 12 AM
