Cornell Freshman roommate selection

Do international students get American students as roomates?

is there anyway an international student can request an American roommate?

Do we roommates with the same major???

You will have an opportunity to fill out a roommate/dorm preference sheet, but it is very simple. They will ask you if you like to stay up late or go to bed early, how clean you like to keep your room, do you study with no noise or with music. They will also you if you want to live in an all girl dorm or themed housing. Based on that information, they will try to match you up with roommate(s). They don’t do it by school or nationality. Most freshmen live on North Campus.

I believe they allow students to pick their own roommate now, so if you know of someone you would like to room with, you could request it. I am not certain because my freshman daughter has a single. She loves it, less conflict and a lot more privacy, but at the same time she still has a lot of friends in her dorm.

Thanks for the info.

So, that means there is a high posbility that an international student gets placed with an American student, right?

And , if someone doesn’t like their roommate…after how long can we change our roommate???

Changing roommates is pretty tough, but it can be done as long as both roommates agree to switch. I’ve seen it done with a friend of mine freshman year, but it’s relatively rare.

So, is it highly possible for an international student to get an American roommate?

@123456A - Couldn’t help but ask why you WANT an American roommate???

I mean, you’re going to be meeting a lot of people on campus and will make a lot of new friends - American, European, Asian, etc.!! Your roommate’s not going to be your only friend there!

Moreover, as oldfort mentioned - Cornell tries to match you to someone who has similar interests as yours!! Which is brilliant!! :)

^exactly. that.
maybe you’ll get some american in the dorm next door?
