Hi everyone,
I applied for early decision for the hotel administration. I want to know how their admission process work, is that different from other majors? I’m thinking to send hand-written letters to the admission office, but I’m not sure who will be reading them and if the letters will go to the right department. Since I’m will be the first person in my family who will go to college, I’m trying to have some personal connection with Cornell, which is the school I really want to go to.
Can anyone answer my questions?
Thank you!
What will the hand-written letter say?
Most schools really don’t want any unsolicited stuff during admissions season. Did you fill out the app? Get good recommendations? Do you have hotel work experience? Top grades and scores? These are the things they will look at. The hotel school at Cornell is rated one of the top schools in the nation – very competitive! From their site:
How is the selection process in the School of Hotel Administration different from the other schools/colleges at Cornell?
We hold the same high standards for academic excellence as the other admissions offices at Cornell. What makes our students unique is their demonstrated passion for pursuing a career in the hospitality industry.
We look for applicants who have leadership experience, a strong work ethic, and an appreciation for the challenges of running a business in the service industry, typically demonstrated through work experience in the field.
88 percent of their admits have hotel or restaurant work experience. Average ACT is 31.
It would be a thankyou note.
thank you!
Honestly, since ED deadline was 11/1, your application may have already been acted upon. However, it is alway appropriate to send thank you notes to your interviewer, regional admissions officer (with whom you’ve met), professor in a class in which you’ve observed at Statler, etc. I just think, in today’s world, email is fine. Good luck!
