Cornell Hotel Senior Dies In Fire

We just received a very sad e-mail that a graduating senior has died in a fire in his off campus apartment. My thoughts and prayers are with his parents, family, friends and the Cornell community tonight.

This is so sad. The photos of the house are horrific. The Ithaca Journal article indicates that there were 7 or 8 students in the building at the time of the fire.

This is a really terrible thing.

Yet surprisingly, considering the age of many of the houses surrounding the university, it’s also a rare one. Ithaca landlords may not necessarily have the best reputations, but they do seem to do a good job of keeping their buildings up to code.

I remember hearing firetruck sirens as I was walking up Libe Slope Friday morning, and then I hear about this a few hours later. Very unfortunate.

So sorry for the family, friends, and community at Cornell. We will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers.
