How do I appropriately respond via email to the college alumnus about interview? He/ She wrote this to me today.

Hi Lilmelonred,

My name is ........ and I'm a Cornell alumni in the area that
regularly meets with applicants. Though this is not a formal
interview, it is a chance to ask candid questions about social and
academic life at Cornell or to share things that may not have fit into
your application. I was a Physics and Astronomy in the College of
Arts and Sciences; I graduated in 2003..

Contact meetings last about an hour or so. I live .............. and usually do these meetings at a coffee shop near me. I'm available most weekdays after 7pm or possibly this coming Sunday (Feb 10). Meetings must be held by the 15th, though.

Please let me know if you would like to meet and what times/place are
good for you. We could also just talk over the phone, considering the weather this weekend

Looking forward to meeting you,
.........

It depends … if you have the time and want to meet her, then you just respond to her that you are interested and ask for specific directions if you don’t know the location of the coffee shop. If you are not interested, even because of the weather, let her know that you are not able to carve out time in the next week to meet her, but thank her for offering her time. These interviews are used differently by colleges … some use it to sell their college to you, some use it as an additional screen, and some use it as a chance to build a good relationship with prospective students about Cornell.

If I were your parent, I would think this interview opportunity is a good thing and would encourage you to meet her this Sunday at 7pm at the location she/he suggested. Bring a list of any questions you have about Cornell life, and be open to having a pleasant conversation about any topic she could bring up. Generally, they want to see that you are a good fit for Cornell, so just be who you are and enjoy the cup of coffee.
