I'm supposed to have my Cornell interview tomorrow. However, the way that the guy phrased it made it seem much more of an informational session and a chance to ask questions than a traditional interview. Is this normal for Cornell?

Yep.

He might ask you a few questions about yourself, but really, he’ll be “CORNELL, CORNELL, CORNELL” all interview, describing his experiences. If you have anything to update in your application, you can let him know and he can tell admissions. He just writes up a report that says you had a meeting, really. Also don’t be alarmed if it’s shorter than your other interviews.

Very well known that it is an “informational session” rather than an “interview” that will have a bearing on admission. It is Cornell’s way of keeping alumni invested. My D was never even contacted about one & was admitted. This has been discussed numerous times on this forum.

I just had my “info session” and second enigmaticescape’s comment. And I know I didn’t have the same interviewer as him/her because it was my interviewer’s first time doing something like this. It really was “CORNELL, CORNELL, CORNELL” the entire time. I think he only asked three questions to me, and that was only when I ran out of questions to ask.

The only part I would disagree on is the “shorter than other interview,” part, because this “info session” went on for 2 hours. Not that it’s a bad thing. He really loved the school Now I know more about Cornell that I could have possibly imagined. However, do prepare lots and lots and lots of questions before hand, or you’ll eventually run into a wall.
