Cornell Interviews

Are Cornell alumni supposed to contact us? B/c I haven't gotten an interview yet and I'm getting a bit iffy.

Yeah....The cornell alumnus / alumnae is supposed to contact you...

I love your username.. Jane Eyre is one of my favorite books of all time :)

doesn't it depend on the school u apply to? cuz some1 told me CALS doesn't do interviews and possibly some others.

Interviews dont matter as long as you visited campus or expressed significant interest some other way. Cornell's interviews are information sessions, not really evaluations. The "Alumni Report" they file online doesn't really have sway in the process.

CALS does interview, I just had mine.

I applied to CALS. I suppose I should call to ask for one then...I haven't had a chance to visit campus yet.

You are supposed to be contacted. If they haven't reached you then they probably haven't gotten around to it yet. Sometimes they just don't have interviewers in your area. What's your major?

actually only certain schools do on-campus interviews and the rest are alumni interviews. but yeah you're supposed to be contacted by February, and if not, call admissions. At any rate that's what admissions told me...lol and the next day my interviewer called me :)

FishS, my major is biology. Yea, I think I'll do that then. Whoa, it's Feb. tomorrow already.

Arts, Architecture, and Planning, and Hotel Administration do evaluative interviews. Alumni Interviews are informational, and do not factor into the admissions process other than demonstrating your interest in the school.

i had an alumni one for engineering

exactly...I just talked to my dad, heheh

The Cornell Alumus is supposed to contact you first.

Hey did anyone else have this happen?

I called the admin office today b/c no one has contacted me yet and they said that the college gives the alumni interviewers a list of the contacts and that you will only be interviewed depending completely on if the alumni interviewer has the chance to contact you. According to them, you have no control over whether you get the interview and that for CALS interviews aren't used for evaluating the applicant but solely for questions. The person was sort of annoyed...but yea, is anyone else in the same situation?

However, one of my friends who also applied to CALS got interviewed and according to him, he and his interview had a standard college interview (ex. the person asked him about school, his interests, etc.)

Look what I found....

" If there is nothing new or unusual, reports should briefly describe the one or two main qualities that stand out about an applicant (examples: genuine interest in and passion for learning/for engineering/for the performing arts; genuinely kind, compassionate individual; keen interest in research, service, or leadership, which helps us identify possible Cornell Commitment nominees)."

So I guess interviews are kinda beneficial after all. It may get you a scholarship...?
