Cornell Interviews

has anyone had an interview yet who is applying ED? if so, did they call you to make an interview or did you request one? also, is it bad if i applied ED and don't have an interview?
thanks

i don't have one either, don't worry about it, from what i have read they mean almost nothing in the decision, the only way it will affect your decision if it is a bad rec. Most likely they get 99% this kid is perfect for cornell interview responses anyway, so not having one might be similar to getting a good one, but i could be wrong, any other opinions

I applied ED and had an alum call be for a phone interview. He mentioned that the interview would be useful to give Cornell any information that is lacking in your application, but otherwise won't affect the decision. If you didn't get an interview, it probably means there are no alumni in your area. You do not need to request one; besides, it would already be too late.

it also depends on what school you're applying to. i think cornell only wants interviews for two of its schools...

towerpumpkin, when did you submit your app because I submitted mine for ED right before the deadline and no one has called me for an interview yet. Do they call people even if they send in the app that late?

My dad is a Cornell interviewer. He said the whole process is very casual + non-competitive. In fact, he said something about not being allowed to ask about test scores or guessing at a person's chances. This is for CAS of course, I know for hotel school interviews are very important (but done on campus). Anyway, if you've done anything new since you sent in your app, or there's something you forgot to mention, have your interviewer pass that info on to admissions.

That's odd. I distinctly remember my interviewer asking my SAT scores and stating that I would be "an excellent fit for Cornell."

I submitted part 1 the tuesday before it was due, the recommendations the thursday before it was due, and the essays and the common app on nov. 1. I got my call maybe a week later.

towerpumpkin-I think interviews used to be more evaluative... maybe they "didn't get the memo" about the new style?

Eh...I don't think it really matters. The purpose of that interview, I think, was for Cornell to know things that I forgot to mention in the rest of the application. Otherwise, what the interviewer thinks probably won't matter to the adcom, as the quality of the interviewer cannot be kept constant.

Hi everyone I am new here wahoo!!

I applied ED too, and I had my "interview" a few weeks ago. You know how they don't call it an interview but of course it is! LOL. Anyway, it was definitely very interview-ish and he kept saying he couldn't ask about SATs, etc...but then proceeded to do just that! It was cool though, but he did tell me that it doesn't really affect my admissions decision b/c the interviewers always favor the people they have met!!

Hope this helps!!!!!!!

I applied RD and hadn't received an interview by February. So when I went to one of their functions for prospective students, I requested an interview and they told me that they would get me the interview. I STILL didn't get an interview. But I ended up getting accepted anyways.
