does Cornell call us for interviews?

Does Cornell typically call every applicant to interview, or is it only for Hotel school, etc? I'm applying to the agriculture one.

only the hotel school does a formal interview. i was contacted a week ago (after submitting my app on 1/1) for an interview with an alumnus. it was informal, not required, and won't weigh much on my application. it was a nice little get together, though. we went to a sandwich/coffee shop literally blocks from my house, spent half an hour talking about stuff, and parted.

but yes, every applicant should be offered an informal alumni interview.

not true. there are some applicants who, just by chance, aren't offered an interview. 24000 applications is a lot, so not everybody can get an interview.

I live in Alaska, and I got an interview. (Engineering)

i started a post about 3 weeks ago about "how do i get contacted for interview". I got a call later that week, and it seems like ppl are still getting contacted these days, so cross your fingers! Everyone applying to cornell from my school got an interview now.

Did Cornell do interviews for ED, I didn't get one if they did.

They did do interviews for ED, I had one.

Does getting an interview mean you are more likely to get in?

no any student that is near an alumni gets an interview and it's purely informational. the alumni answers any questions you have about the school and they don't ask you much about your academic background.

I don't get how this works... Do the alums get paid or what? Are they doing this cuz they like to? Anyway, I recently accepted an interview proposition but haven't gotten an ans yet. I don't really have any questions, so I'm hoping that she cancels or somethin...

my interviewer called me on sunday last week and we agreed to interview on monday. The interview was pretty good, the guy liked me, and that was that.

stripedsweater: no there is no correlation between your chances and whether or not you are contacted for an interview. It has to do with the availability of alumni in your area.

Sanosuke: The alumni do it because they want to.

lightfish: dammit, please use proper agreement. alumni/alumnus :p

Not that it will make or break my admission chances, but I still have not been contacted for an interview. Everyone says it is a matter of "availability," but I live on Long Island and I am sure there are plenty of alumni around.

Well there are also a poopload of applicants from long island. The ratio makes alumni scarce in a way.

I got an interview even before I got an interview for my Early Decision School. Way back in early november. I sent everything in early to all my schools so that might have played a factor.

yeah, i heard that it was supposed to be informational, but i had no chance to ask any questions; he asked all the questions, and had to leave b/c of something...

robotFood that must be an expensive plane ticket lol. surprised a cornellian lives in Alaska, must be an engineer. that makes me surprised i didn't get an interview and i live like 3 hours away from cornell. lol

abike, it' an alum interview, so we'll be meeting at a coffee shop :)

however, I am surprised too that you don't have an interview yet with your proximity to cornell. strange world isn't it? hah

I received a call today from a Cornell Alum. It's not for a personal interview; she wants to talk with me over the phone. This is the first I have heard of a phone interview.

an alum called like a week after i submitted my app, and she did ask some academic stuff, like what level classes i took and how i was doing in them.
