Cornell is the Worst Ivy and SO WHAT

To all those tired of people referring to Cornell as subpar.

Honestly speaking, I did not apply to Cornell because it was an Ivy. I choose to go to Cornell for its academics.

Even if it is the "worst Ivy" , then what an honor it is to attend the stupidest school in the most prestigious group of schools.

Even if 3/4 of students are stupid , then I will just have to speak with the 2, 500 students who are not stupid.

Even if ILR, CALS, and He are public schools, NY must be blessed for having very good public schools. The UC system better watch out.

Even if it accepts that HUGE amount of 25%, sorry for Cornell giving an opportunity to stupid kids to receive a world renowned education.

Below are all the rankings that make Cornell just one of the worst places of higher education :

The university ranked 12th in the 2007 and 2008 U.S. News & World Report National Universities ranking

12th globally in an academic ranking of world universities by Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2006.

Britain's THES - QS World University Rankings ranked Cornell 14th in the world in 2005 and 15th in 2006.

Newsweek named Cornell the 'Hottest Ivy' in its 2007 listing of America's 25 Hot Schools. Instead of using the traditional school ranking methods, Newsweek offers a snapshot of todays most interesting colleges according to high school counselors, admissions officers, consultants, students, and parents, who noted Cornell for its emphasis on "problem-solving as well as scholarly debate" and "variety on campus" among other things.

The Almanac of Architecture and Design along with Design Intelligence has consistently ranked Cornell's Bachelor of Architecture program as number one in the nation (in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006 and 2007).

Worldwide, the school was ranked 17th by The Economist in 2005 and 36th by the Financial Times in 2006.

In 1954 Conrad Hilton called the Cornell School of Hotel Administration "the greatest hotel school in the world.

According to the latest ranking of National Research Council in 1995, Cornell ranks sixth nationally in the number of graduate programs in the top ten in their fields.

Dennis: welcome to Cornell. I wish all the incoming students at Cornell possess the same healthy attitude as you.

Oh my god Dennis, you did a ton of research :P

waste of time..

Since this is mostly referring to meurtopablo and myself, let me clarify. I never said Cornell wasn't great. Read my posts. I say Cornell is a fantastic school. It's also not the worst Ivy, it's better than Brown and Dartmouth. However, I did remark that I consider the students to have less academic ability than those at HYP, a sentiment expressed candidly by two of my professors.

What you say of Cornell students now is quite different than wht u said before. There is quite a big difference between saying that Cornell students are behind HYP students and saying that 'vast' majority of Cornell students are undeserving of ivy diploma. Really, get a life and man up, dude.

thank you, Dennis...sorry I didn't get to interview.you!!! ..since my husband & I both graduated, then my son, and now my daughter is a freshman...I've obviously a tender spot in my heart.for Cornell .."any person, any study" chokes me up even when I am interviewing candidates...and I know plenty of shallow kids at all the other ivies...

I think you should just stop talking. :[

Memphis Mom - we visited Cornell this week and were told that interviews (alum OR through admissions) were not allowed. Were we misinformed? My D really liked Cornell and will apply. Thanks.

Using my patented Arbitrary College Analyzer (ACA), I have determined that Cornell is the 1.74412th best University within a 149,124.13x10^8,992,331 mile radius of the Neptunian moon Galatea. I think that settles it.

sent you a PM

cornell was ranked better than brown, and cornell was also rated the hottest in the ivy league
Cornell named 'Hottest Ivy' by Newsweek

i love cornell =]

I always thought it was the best ivy

My best friend from medical school went to Cornell and made such great friends that 25 years later they stay in contact (and I have been lucky to meet many of these remarkable, successful and well-rounded colleagues. I hope that my son will be able to go to Cornell after Deerfield.

personally i think brown and dartmouth are weaker than cornell, but seriously your right and people should stop giving cornell so much ****. The only reason why people say cornell is bad is because of its high acceptance percentage compared to other ivies. Besides ive heard that to optain a 3.5 in Cornell is MUCH harder than a 3.5 at HYP

Dartmouth and Brown are not weaker than Cornell, they are very different than Cornell. Is Amherst weaker than Wisconsin? Similarly Dartmouth and Brown have very different value propositions, they are much more like LACs.

I love Cornell tooo =]

cornell is a good school... yay for the op!

Slipper, I whole-heartedly agree with your statement. I believe that there is no such thing as 'worst' ivy, each school has diff. merits. That said, I don't think u should call Cornell worse than D or Brown either, or calling it 'worst ivy', since as you pointed out, Cornell is diff. from Brown and D and they all can't be compared linearly. I pointed to this bc I saw several of your previous posts which stated that Cornell was the weakest ivy in your opinion, by arguing that Cornell was the 'weakest' bc it wasn't as represented in wall street job placement or something.
