I got a likely letter too, and I’m so nervous about it, even more so then I was before. I didn’t really think I was going to get in so now that I’ve gotten my hopes up I’m terrified they’re going to be crushed. I’ve barely told anyone about the likely letter just in case.
@looneytoons we’re definately in the same boat. I also had no confidence that j would get into Cornell. On top of that I got waitlisted to BC. Praying for both of us!
Just curious, do all the Ivies send out likely letters or just some? My son applied to Harvard, Princeton, Dartmouth and Stanford (not technically an Ivy) and he hasn’t received any communications from any of them, except from Princeton, which was just looking for more financial aid info. I’m not worried because he has some really great offers from a few of the other (non-Ivy) schools he applied to, so we are in good shape. But I am curious and of course wondering if he will get accepted to any of those super-selective schools!
@chris17mom the use of Likely Letters varies by college. The one caveat: NO ONE should expect one. Most accepted students never are given one. They used to be solely sent to recruited athletes. In the last 6-7 yrs, some colleges started using them with others whom the colleges deemed particularly remarkable and likely to be heavily recruited by their peer colleges.
I interview for one of the Ivies. We’ve not seen any increase in the use of these over the last few years. Just a tiny tiny few were sent out to our pool of 100s of applicants.
Ok thanks. It sounds like the fact that he hasn’t received any letters doesn’t mean anything. We just have to keep waiting to find out!
