Very surprising...I had no idea that Cornell sent out likely letters to non-athletes!

I am writing to let you know how much the Cornell Engineering Admissions Committee enjoyed reading your application. Your academic and personal achievements are outstanding and, although the Ivy League schools won’t notify students of their admission decisions until the end of the month, it may help with your planning to know that you are very likely to be admitted to Cornell.

During the next few weeks and months, you will narrow your list of possible college choices to the one school you think is best for you. I hope this advance notice of our high regard for your application will encourage you to learn more about the College of Engineering and Cornell.

and then it goes on to talk about Prospective Candidates' Weekend.

Woot!!

was this by email or mail?

I got one of these, as well. It was an e-mail around 1:30 today.

Me too! via email at 1:12pm est today… I hope they wouldn’t send me this if I wasn’t going to be accepted because they have seriously gotten my hopes up…

^Oops, yeah. It was by e-mail around 10AM PST/1PM EST.

Is it possible to get in without receiving a likely letter? In other words, how many percent of admitted students receive it?

I JUST GOT ONE TOO!!! omg! soo happy! I got waitlisted at Wash U, then rejected from MIT yesterday, and was a little down since Wash U was my first choice, but then this came today and I am SHOCKED!!

i’m thinking that this was only sent to female engineering applicants?

I am a female engineering applicant so that could be very likely!

female engineering applicant who received a LL right here too

Likely’s usually go to female engineering applicants. Mainly because there is a shortage of female engineers. Also, for those freaking out about not getting a likely letter, that is no indication to whether or not you will be accepted. Relax =D.

Best birthday present ever wooot

The likey letter means just what it says you are extremely likely to be admitted it was only sent to a very small percent of those who will be admitted though, it was to both males and females. I was talking to the Director of Engineering admissions the other day and he said that Cornell was very proud to say that the admitted class is one of the highest in the country in percent female about 40%, which is crazy for an engineering program.

congrats guys,
did it say anywhere in the letter that it was from the society of women engineers?

yay!! I am also female engineering applicant.
@pjpolkadotts: it wasn’t from SWE but the prospective candidates weeked is hosted by them.

I got one too. Female engineering applicant like the rest (CS).
I was rather surprised. I thought my application was a bit of a long shot…my extracurriculars kinda suck. It arrived at about 10 o’clock pacific time. It did mention the SWE event, so maybe this particular email was intended for female applicants. Perhaps a male one will come at a later time…

First time I’ve ever wished I was a girl…

^ haha, there are definitely some benefits

I’m a female engineering applicant and I didn’t receive one. Should I be worried?

i don’t think so. People on this thread are saying that it is only sent to a small percentage of applicants. 15 days…you can make it :)
