A couple weeks ago, I recived an email that stated “I am writing to let you know how much the Cornell Engineering Admissions Committee enjoyed reading your application. Your academic and personal achievements are outstanding and, although the Ivy League schools won’t officially notify students of their admission decisions until the end of the month, I am pleased to inform you that you are very likely to be admitted to Cornell. …”
I believe this is what most people call a likely letter. I am a female who applied to the engineering school. The email then continued to invite me to a Women In Engineering program later in April.
I’m surprised that I got this email, becuase my stats are relatively low in comparison to naviance and etc. Many people are telling me that i will be accepted, and i don’t want to get me hopes up. What are the chances of being rejection/waitlessed after receiving this email?
I mean a likely letter basically is saying that as long as you maintain the standards and character of which you have been accepted on, then you will simply be admitted. So, you would have a very low chance of being rejected or listed after receiving a likely letter.
If you get into disciplinary troubles in your academic/social community or when your grades drop severely – not a B or two, but Ds and Fs – you will be admitted.
The Reason I ask is becuase I have a 3.7/4.0 GPA and a 2210 SAT( I know that’s isn’t terrible but I didn’t think it’ll make me stand out enough to get a likely letter). I’m also an asian female, which supposedly has very high competition?
Wow. I get that this is nerve wracking. But you literally have the golden ticket in your hands and now you’re swaying with doubt.
Here’s what you need to do. Remove CC from your computers’ bookmarks, history, etc. Honestly, erase it from your memory.
Now go and get a huge bag of your favorite snacks and go binge watch some Netflix or NCAA basketball. Don’t turn in any homework next week.
Why? Cuz it won’t matter.
Please learn to relax. You’re in – and unless you’ve got some serious skeletons in your closet (fraud, felony) you’re wasting emotional energy. You know all that toil you put in for four years? Now it’s time to take a breath. I’ve been advising on the Pton and Harvard boards for accepted students to intentionally get a C in one of their classes. I think you should do it too.
@T26E4 wow thank you so much for that. I’m sure a lot of people hate me for posting this and probably think I’m fishing for compliments and whatnot. But I’ve truly been a nervous wreck these past couple of days. So thank you for that, it’s just what I needed.
@Prubaby123 i completely know how u feel. I really don’t need want to get my hopes up, only to get them crushed. I hope we both get in and recieve the aid we need
That FB poster was a t roll . Several have appeared on this site over the last few days and will again – posting stuff like “I just got my Stanford accept notification” and because people are so high strung, it causes a panic. Administrators can’t get rid of them quickly enough on this site. That person is lying.
