Cornell Nanobiotech HS Summer Internship

did anyone get in here??

I didn't get in. I kinda expected that considering I'm a sophomore. I really wanted to intern with them, so I think I might apply next year.

Good luck to anyone that did get in. Best wishes

My brother heard today-didn't get in.

grr..nobody on CC?

My son was accepted on the 21st. There were 10 total and they extended the program to 4 weeks.

I'm applying this year.
And I'm scared.
=/

I'm also applying & scared. I'm a sophomore, and haven't been able to take any AP science classes yet (though I'm enrolled in AP US History & AP Computer Science currently). Do you think this will significantly hurt my chances of being accepted?

Thanks!

I really want to apply this year too. I figure there's no reason not to. Have you guys started working on your essays yet?

Also, anyone have back up plans for if they don't get accepted? I'll probably continue to take classes at my community college if I don't.

Bumping this up again, because i'm attempting to write my essay. I'm making a list of the three central topics they want and writing ideas underneath, but I really want to stand out. Is it really inappropriate to ask my composition teacher to read over this?

I'm applying too as a Soph and only one AP science ( Chem) so I don't think my chances are that good. i also need help with this letter I'm totally burned out from writing essays/letters

hmmm.... 10 spots... this will be interesting.
How long should the essay be? App. says 1-2 pages but what spacing? I have 1 page single-spaced atm and I haven't covered everything they want yet... I don't want to make it so long that the admissions officer starts skimming over the rest of it.. lol

You have that many letters to write during sophomore year? wow...

I think it's 1-2 single spaced. I really don't have much down, just a list of various ideas i'm trying to piece together. It pretty much seems like your essay makes/breaks you...

Also, should we put the level of science/math courses we took? For example, if I took a college chemistry class, should I say that or just put chemistry?

Might as well.. there's a big difference between some random chemistry class you take as a freshmen and AP Chem.

Do they actually call your school / science teacher? If so I might want to inform my science teacher (so he doesn't get a random unexpected call one day).

Ughh I really need to call them about that. I'm homeschooled, and the chem teacher I had isn't there anymore and I have no way to contact her. I didn't get into a science class this semester either. chances destroyed

Okay, I just sent in my letter of intent...That was all we had to send this year right? It seems too easy...

Letter of intent, and that online application form. Apparently they call your teacher if you're a finalist. I really wish they would just tell you up front that they were going to contact them!

well, i told my chem teacher he could possibly get a call for this internship, and also for this other internship i applied to, it's called REAP. has anybody ever heard about that one? i'm kind of confused about it.

hey. i'm thinking of applying as well.
have you guys all taken technology courses or no? Cuz i have none, but i have AP Bio and stuff.
Also, when they say 1-2 page letter, did you guys single space?
Thanks. good luck!

Yes, single space. I'm not sure about the technology requirements because I didn't have any either... I think it should be fine.

i was just thinking, since no more than one person from each state is admitted, wouldn't this be easier for someone from say like New Mexico to apply than from someone in like, New York?
