Cornell or Johns Hopkins??

Hi everyone. I was recently rejected from Harvard after being deferred as an early applicant. I am very depressed, but have to make the decision soon as to where I am going to attend college in the fall. I want to be a biology or chemistry major because I am interested in medicine. I am confused as to which school I should commit to, Cornell or Johns Hopkins. These are two excellent schools, but does anyone have any insight as to which school is better for a pre med student hoping to be accepted into Harvard med school? Also, at which college would I have more of a balanced life concerning academics and the social aspect? Overall I just don’t know which school would be a better choice. Thanks !

Maybe these help?

Have you even done your research? Seriously?

You’re asking which school would be better for pre-med?

Do you even KNOW what Johns Hopkins is?

Either one can get you into med school. Both have med schools, but Cornell’s med school is in New York City, not in Ithaca, and Johns Hopkins’ medical school is right there in Baltimore.

Both have excellent options for you if you decide that you don’t want med school, or if you don’t like bio/chem after all. If the costs are the same for you, you really can choose based on which location you prefer. If one is cheaper, go there and save money for med school.

@0br0123 yes i have done my research, and johns hopkins is known for their med school… I’m taking undergraduate here…

does anyone have any opinions on grade deflation/inflation? I want to be able to achieve a high gpa so that I will stand out as a good applicant when applying to med schools… but i hear that Cornell has more of a deflation than jhu

It seems to me that wherever you go, you will be unhappy, constantly thinking you should be at Harvard. Are you seriously going to decide based on what school you think will help you get to Harvard Med School? You need to get a grip.

Both will provide outstanding pre-medical preparation. No doubt, countless folks have graduated from both universities and gone on to excellent medical schools. There is absolutely ZERO point in attempting to divine which school will offer the teeny tiniest advantage because it is impossible… the question is… in which environment do you think you can (1) thrive academically, (2) enjoy the most.

“but i hear that Cornell has more of a deflation than jhu”

You hear? From where? There are so many unsubstantiated “facts” floating around with no basis in reality.

These are both outstanding schools… some will prefer Cornell, others will prefer JHU.

Folks on here may be able to tell you what they prefer…

But no one can tell YOU what YOU prefer or which will be better for YOU…

It seems as if you are looking for someone to tell you what the “right” decision is… but there isn’t one right decision for everyone.
