Cornell RD 2024

is there still a chance of acceptance without the likely letter?

@onthatgrind definitely. only the top 5% ish applicants get likely letters.

Does anyone know how hard it is for a deffered student to be admitted through regular decision? Better chances, worse?

Do you have any improvements like a better SAT, Higher GPA, Great Extra-Curriculars, etc.? If not, you have the same chance as any of us…

Does anyone suddenly a financial aid to-do list? I didn’t have one till today, and now I suddenly have one. International student here, by the way. It says I didn’t submit my CSS, but I did long ago (in January)? Aah! This process is so crazy.

My FA portal just shows “No current to do item information found” since Jan. Btw did you receive email asked you to submit tax returns and passport? I’m intl too

No, I didn’t. My portal showed the same thing till yesterday too. Now it suddenly has the CSS profile, but no tax document or passport requests. This process is eating me up alive

Cornell undergrad here. Don’t stress much about the likely letters. From what I’ve heard from current students, it is a very small portion of applicants that are actually sent these letters.

@momver No, likely letters are generally sent to applicants who the university deemed to be the students highest on the acceptance list, which just happens to also be nearly all athletic recruits since they have a major bonus in admissions. Don’t stress, the vast majority of accepted students don’t get a letter.

@Anthromajor Cornell has too many applicants to offer everybody an interview. These interviews also tend to be a lot more informational and more of a chance for the applicant to ask questions about the school. Common to not get an interview

hopefully we have advantage…i was also deferred ED

I was deferred at Case EA and was accepted RD with a huge scholarship! so hoping its a trend?!

What school in Cornell were you deferred from?

I had no items on my to-do list until late jan when they asked for business taxes (my family does not have a business, but there was something weird on my parents’ tax return) and i contacted them about it and we emailed back and forth maybe 4 or 5 times about it. they removed it from my to-do list after i explained it

Cannot find link to FA Portal. Can someone please send it here?

FYI, the “Applicant ID” is different than for the main portal.

decided to turn down cornell. nets under the bridges shudders[/youquote]

decisions aren’t out yet…how did you turn down

  • You posted this 5 minutes after being rejected by Swarthmore.
  • You haven’t been accepted by Cornell so you had nothing to turn down.
  • Your implication is false. Cornell’s suicide rate is not out of the ordinary.

@binlee

correct, i believe columbia’s suicide rate is actually higher than cornell’s.

maybe he/she meant that they decided not to apply after seeing that?

@throwaway0324 Maybe. But his/her implication is false and unwarranted. Appears written out of spite, only 5 minutes after he/she was rejected by Swarthmore. BTW, MIT and Penn too.

I was deffered as well. ILR.
