Cornell RD Class of 2016 Discussion Thread

What kind of a person would turn Harvard down? x.x

My son was accepted. I just wanted to stress that my older son who is a princeton grad, really wanted originally to attend Columbia and applied Ed. He was ultimately rejected RD, and was waitlisted by Cornell. This year, my hs senior was rejected to princeton but accepted to Cornell. I know it sounds like a cliche, but I do believe you end up where you are suppose to be. I went met my husband in college.

Accepted!! Ahh, I seriously did a double-take when I saw, “Congratulations…”

Honestly, I was expecting rejection.

^^
Wait, your older son got into PRINCETON but not Cornell? How is that even possible?

But it’s not like he would have taken Cornell over Princeton anyway… Who would?

Congrats to all those accepted! You’ll love it here. Feel free to ask me any questions (I’m a senior in A&S).

I received a transfer offer. What is that? It sounds like I have to do well next year and then get in. Anyone know about this? Cornell said more info would come in mail.

Wait listed at Dartmouth and Brown but rejected by Cornell. Weird, I thought it was the only Ivy I had a shot at…

Saugus,

I think you better start thinking before you post. You are sounding quite ignorant and it seems like you are the type of person who only takes status into consideration when choosing a school. Why would you say anyone would take Princeton over Cornell? My son was just accepted to Cornell and did not even apply to Princeton (or Harvard or Yale) because he was looking first and foremost at the program to which he wants to pursue. You are making a huge generalization when you say things like Cornell is the lowest in rank of the Ivy’s. Please don’t go to Cornell if you have this type of attitude. Why did you even apply in the first place? Stay in CA and attend Berkley, please!

Saugus, that is correct. My older son was waitlisted by Cornell, but was accepted to Princeton, Brown, Georgetown, and other schools. Even if he had been accepted to Cornell, he would have went to Princeton. However, I will be honest with you. Having gone through the grad school admission process with him (law school) and seeing that schools primarily looked at the numbers (GPA, standarized test), I am not surprised anymore by the students who choose to attend the state university over a more challenging/difficult grading ivy.

liquidpet, I agree with you that the program is very important. All schools are different, and if a student has a passion for a concentration or major that another school may not have or specialize in, than the name of the school or prestige should be less important. Cornell is a great school, and my son feels lucky to have been accepted.

Interesting. I received a guaranteed transfer offer from Cornell!

See yall in 2013!

I received an guaranteed transfer email from CALS!

Hey all–

Congrats if you’ve heard back! Are any of you interested in pre-orientation programs? I highly recommend you check out Outdoor Odyssey, a program for new Cornell students that happens the week before Orientation Week.

We have a wide variety of trip offerings: [Outdoor Odyssey](<a href=“COE | Student & Campus Life | Cornell University”>COE | Student & Campus Life | Cornell University)

Congrats to everyone who was admitted. This is an awesome school that combines a traditional college campus/experience with a strong education.

I just realized that in my Princeton essay, I had written “Cornell” in all the places where “Princeton” was supposed to go. And so I guess my subconscious had told me that Cornell was where I belonged. Go Big Red!

Okay after looking at some of the stats of rejected/waitlisted students, I feel ridiculously lucky to be able to join you guys next year! Rejected from every school but Cornell and Emory (and KState haha), probably going to Cornell. Can’t wait!

I think what I realized is that even though I’m one of the top five students in my high school, maybe even district, it’s like that across the country and even globe. I feel so lucky to be accepted, and I have friends at Cornell who love it there. I can barely get off their site to do homework I’m still so excited!

does cornell send paper copies of decisions to everyone? Or only accepted students?

Did all the admitted students receive their envelopes today? Did those waitlisted receive a letter? I didn’t have an online decision and Cornell is my top choice. Obviously, I’m freaking out a little because my friend who didnt have an online decision got in today through the mail. Was just wondering if waitlist letters come out at a different date than admit letters.

BalletPI, my son received his acceptance in the mail today. I hope it works out for you.
