I agree. A bit silly.
Most students don’t just run up to NYC for a weekend for the exact reason that it’s 4-5 hours away. Ithaca is a small college town with not a ton to do but there is a great farmers market, cornell hockey is the bomb, you do not need a car there at all, everyone takes the bus, uber or taxi, the airport is small but nice because of it or you can just go to syracuse which is about an hour ride. Skiing is also not far and a lot of kids partake in that and have a lot of fun. It’s not hard to stay entertained and when you’re not, you’re studying! It’s a great place.
To that end, this will wrap up my last kid’s college decision. One at Cornell, one at UT-Austin and this one was rejected at Cornell but happily going to Michigan for Engineering. We will be empty nesters with lots of great sports and college towns and academic powerhouses! So proud of my kiddos as all of you parents and kids should be of one another as well after this stressful application season!

There is a great school spirit. The hockey team is one of the best in the country… and there is a lot to do on campus as well.

I’m sorry he didn’t get Cornell, but I’m going to connect you with my husband/son and they can give you and your son all the information about UMich engineering. My hubby is a self-proclaimed expert, and I’d love to repay your kindness and all the help you have offered me. It is a fantastic school, and I’m sure your son will love it there.

Congrats to everyone who got in!! I am an int’l and Cornell is the only US school I got in! I did not apply for financial aid coz I thought it might decrease my chances of getting in (highly regretting this now as it turns out my parents may not support my study there😞). Does anyone know if I can apply for financial aid in the middle of college years? or student loans?
