First off, I am in no way qualified to be admitted into any Cornell program other than the SHA. I have years of specific hands on experience in the hospitality industry and this is why I was considering the SHA.

For the past 3 years I have held positions in the industry from busing to serving to cooking on the line. For a 17 year old, I am extremely educated and aware of the restaurant and hotel business; I have seen restaurants end in disaster, restaurants soar to the top, and everything in between.

Some basic stats
-1870 (first) - 620CR 580M 670W 12E
Math 2 Subject test required for SHA will NOT be impressive

-3.7 GPA w/o 9th grade, 3.4 w/ 9th grade

-Most demanding curriculum available to me: 7 APs, 7 Honors

-Top 25%

I am ranked in state levels for Congressional debate, currently conducting individual research at the N.J. Supreme court, I have won a regional Guitar Center Drum-Off, have been starting shooting guard for a rec. basketball team for 4 years, and other minor activities. I am also African American.

I know these stats are not impressive for any division of Cornell, but I was wondering if anyone knew how much leniency the SHA gives for someone with extensive industry experience. Assuming I ace the required interview, do I have a realistic shot?

Any hotelies out there wishing to share their experience?

Thank you
