Cornell SHA Language Question

Hi! I’m planning on applying ED to Cornell’s Hospitality program for Fall 2018 (I’m a junior), and I am debating dropping Spanish for next year in school. It’s a really difficult class that I would take, and I know I won’t do well on the AP Exam. I want to remove the class from my schedule to have more time to work on college applications and focus on my other classes. I might stay in regular; I’m not sure what I should do. Will Spanish get me excused from any classes if I attend Hospitality school? Will it hurt me if I drop the class? Thank you for your time!!!

All you need in order to apply to SHA is three years in a single foreign language, so if you’re in AP Spanish, my guess is you’ve already achieved that. For SHA, AP credits mostly only get you out of electives, so it wouldn’t necessarily be super helpful.

If dropping the class would lead you to perform better in your other classes, then I think it’s a good thing. But Cornell does generally look for you to be taking the most rigorous course load you can, so whether it’ll hurt your chances may depend on the rest of your course load vs. the highest level your school offers.
