CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) _ Police are investigating the death of a Cornell University student found in a University of Virginia dorm room.

(student's name), 19, was visiting a friend over spring break who lived in Cauthen residence hall, where he was found dead in a bed Friday morning.

"We don't know the cause of death," campus police Sgt. Melissa Fielding said. "We don't know anything at this point."

Authorities said there was no evidence of foul play, and that (student's name)'s body was taken to the state medical examiner's office in Richmond for an autopsy.

(grandfather's name) said his grandson was "partying" the night before he died.

"He went to sleep and never woke up," (grandfather's name) said. "The whole thing is beyond my comprehension."

(student's name), a former marathon runner in high school in St. Louis, was a freshman at Cornell majoring in computer science and electrical engineering. He was a member of the Cornell University Autonomous Underwater Vehicle club, which competes in building underwater, unmanned vehicles, said Simeon Moss, a spokesman for the New York university.

Moss said a memorial service will be held at Cornell when students return from spring break.

I thought this was a pretty sad and unfortunate event.

I've heard of students dying at MIT. One off-campus, another on.
It's strange that such things happen, but I guess that youth and chance just say their word.

Edit#: grammar mistake correction

Holy ****, his screen name is "lucifer11287" says facebook. He's posted on CC before.

Alcohol poisoning or other cause???

(deleted link to article in college paper...CollegeMom)
seems like it was alcohol related...

If this was lucifer11287....he wrote the following on this site: "I am ignorant? I can tell you, both statistically and anecdotally, that it is very rare and comparitively hard for someone to drink themselves to death. Me and my friends are all very experienced drinkers, and we all know exactly how we get when we drink too much, so we go by those signs." My prayers are with his family.

omg . . . lucifer11287 did post around here . . wow

what a sad commentary on knowledge of acohol use and deaths.
He posted and lots of the posts discussed alcohol..........partying and frats.

can you send the link to that post?

Lucifer posts numerous times on this thread:

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=143981&highlight=lucifer11287%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=143981&highlight=lucifer11287</a></p>

Some posts are quite recent.

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=137199%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=137199</a> was the thread I cited

I read one of his post just yesterday.

03-16-2006, 02:28 PM Last post that I see.

Omg, is that was lucifer then holy *ing *. Very sorry to hear this.

very much coincidence to NOT be him. I think it was him......he used the screen name on other sites also.

The irony is just unbelievable...in so many of his posts he downplayed the dangers of alcohol poisoning and whatnot, and now he appears to be dead (at least we think it's him.) The story would fit perfectly...he was last seen here Thursday, probably before heading to UVA for the weekend.

Someone should post this on the main page...a pretty tragic event when a 19-year old CC member dies.

Sleeping pills + alcohol maybe?

Or maybe serious ignorance...his friends left him after 15 minutes according to the article.

I'd place a miniscule fraction of the blame on his friends. The majority of the responsibility (if the cause of death was indeed alcohol poisoning) lies with lucifer.

I didn't blame them.
